Hi folks. I'm thinking about acquiring a terrain mat to use for my WWI games, and was wondering what people would recommend. So far in all my online browsing I haven't seen anything that really fits.

I play 15mm skirmish level games (Through the Mud and the Blood) and am looking for a muddy-looking mat, nothing too dry or rocky. A good muddy no man's land sort of look. I'd like it not to have any grass on it. What do you guys use?

Any recommendations appreciated!

Cigar Box Battle Mats has this: link and this: link

I have several of his mats and have been very pleased with them.

Thanks Jim, I think those are a bit rocky looking for me, but I appreciate the recommendation.

Try Hotz Mats – hotzmats.com/index.html

They make a Euro Fields as well as a trench line map for Air combat.

This is close, you could paint out or in or just darken really, the grass that is there:http: link
That seems to be the closest I can find with my Googlefu!

Or when I was doing WW1 in 20mm I used a thick dark brown cloth with several lighter browns spray painted it, from a distance, in my attempt to dry-brush. Worked very well. I think I used at least 3 other earth brown tones. It's cheaper too. But sometimes that doesn't matter, I know!
Good luck!
Peter

I have been waiting for two mats from Hotz Mats for several months. Love their stuff and never had a problem before but a bit worrying at present.

Thanks again for the recommendations guys.

I hear lots of good things about the quality of Hotz Mats, but I think I hear even more about people waiting indefinitely for orders that may or may not show.
