Very nice film clip. While I am generally an Anglophile with this period, De Ruyter was the most brilliant naval commander of this period and his defense of the Netherlands was exemplary. I wish there were more manufacturers of ships for this period. I really prefer it over Nelson/Napoleonic period.

Vincente I am with you. The ships are more beautiful than those of napoleonic era. |

Also the navies were more evenly matched. Britain wasn't the navy super-power that it was in Nelson's time and the major powers (Britain, Netherlands, France) were closer to parity with the secondary powers (Spain, Denmark, Sweden) not that far behind. |

The rest of the movie is quite good and well worth watching, in spite of the usual stretching of the historical record to fit the narrative and a few glitches of factual detail. link |

Vincent, I agree 100%. Also liked the movie, but like War Artiisn said, it does stretch somethings and contains inaccuracies. Vincent, one of the foremost historians on ships of the period, Frank Fox, is not too far from you. Dan |

After watching that clip, I want to play Admirals with really big fleets of ADW ships. - Ix |
