If those prices are accurate then hard pass. |
ThomasS | 09 Aug 2018 1:11 p.m. PST |
At that price of the Grand Master box or Warlords, no-way I can get that passed the wife. Will still pick up some of the Knights and Warhound/Reavers when they are come out. Then start holding my breath Titanicus does well enough for GW to also bring back Epic. |
kallman | 10 Aug 2018 7:05 a.m. PST |
Yes, sadly, when I saw the price for the starter set I decided I will pass. Too bad as I looking forward to this. While I was initially excited that GW was re-booting AT I was expecting the starter to be more in their $150 USD-175 price range and I would have shell out for that. I hope the set does well for them. |
Pictors Studio | 10 Aug 2018 7:05 p.m. PST |
At $290 USD the starter box set gives you the figures and everything else for free. That is a high entry cost though. I will probably get one but I have to inventory my other Epic stuff first. |
ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa | 11 Aug 2018 2:09 a.m. PST |
Prices are SW Armada-level and with that you get pre-assembled and painted (to a point)! And looking at the sprues of the Warlord it doesn't exactly look like a 5-minute assembly job either. I was going to sell on a Dream Forge 1:100 Leviathan Crusader to fund, but I'm now thinking I might keep it to proxy for something! My one concern about the price structure is that large numbers of box sets will simply vanish to people who just want break them up and flog the separate bits on ebay. |

Nice. Now I'm really tempted to pick up a Grand Master Edition box set myself. |
Pictors Studio | 13 Aug 2018 2:24 p.m. PST |
Those are nicely done MongooseMatt. I don't even have my set yet and yours are already painted extremely well! I won't even be able to pick up my set from the store this weekend as I'm on call from 0700 Frieday morning until noon on Sunday. |
15mm and 28mm Fanatik | 14 Aug 2018 9:08 a.m. PST |
Just pre-ordered a GM edition on eBay at under $250.00 USD with free shipping. Guess my defenses totally broke down under the titans' relentless barrage. |

Those volcano cannons sure do pack a punch. |
MongooseMatt | 15 Aug 2018 2:06 a.m. PST |
They do. We played our first games last night. Managed to blow my own titan up by overheating (no enemy damage) on turn three. The Reactor Dice is a harsh mistress… |
Pictors Studio | 15 Aug 2018 11:39 a.m. PST |
From reading the White Dwarf article it sure sounded like a fun game. I'm going to see if I can't get a game in on the evening of the 24th. |
Moonbeast | 15 Aug 2018 1:17 p.m. PST |
Those are great looking Warlords Matt. I see Legio Mortis but I'm not familiar with the other paint scheme. I can't wait for mine to arrive, Legio Suturvora all the way! |
MongooseMatt | 16 Aug 2018 1:31 a.m. PST |
Legio Xestobiax – present in the Prospero campaign. |

"Legio Xestobiax – present in the Prospero campaign." Nice, just looked them up on Lexicanum, good looking paint scheme and interesting background. |

I just got my grand master set tonight along with an additional warlord and an additional set of kinghts. That set of knights is now assembled. I will tackle the warlord tomorrow. |
Capt Flash | 18 Aug 2018 7:09 p.m. PST |
I'm thinking of going with Clan Blood Spirit from Battletech. |
Centurio Prime | 19 Aug 2018 8:31 a.m. PST |
I got my Grandmaster box yesterday and opened it up last night. The components are just amazing. Those knights are incredibly detailed. The hardback rulebook (I was expecting softcover) looks great. The rules seem really cool and geared towards detailed battles between titans. There are two legions detailed with their own special rules (Gryphonicus and Tempestus), with more to follow in in an additional supplement. I like the fact that most matched play games are played on a 4'x4' board. Overall I'd say this is another home run for GW. |
Pictors Studio | 20 Aug 2018 10:16 a.m. PST |
The only problem I had with mine was assembling the warlord. The legs are not capable of much articulation. Which is fine but I didn't realize it and had to pull the one apart. The next titan will not be so bad. |
Legion 4 | 21 Aug 2018 3:11 p.m. PST |
My local hobby shop gives 20% off GW. So that may "force" me to get the Rules and Objective sprue box set and the 4 building box set. I'll sell off the Rules, etc., and just keep the Objectives. |
Capt Flash | 05 Sep 2018 4:58 p.m. PST |
Lol @Legion- I may be doing the same thing! |

Man, I am so conflicted about this one. I've been trying to ween myself off of Sci-Fi and especially GW. I have such fond memories though of playing Titanicus on the floor of my apartment when I was in college. I'm not that hyped about Warlords. I always preferred Reavers & Warhounds. My favorite style of game featured 5-6 Warhounds hunting a Reaver or Warlord. The cost hurts but it's really not that bad for what you get. The Knights are a nice bonus. Does anyone know when the Warhounds are available? Those will be a big selling point for me if they look nice. U.K. |

Reavers are indeed out now. I have my first assembled and about halfway painted. The other one I have started assembling. I'll probably finish assembling that tonight and get the other one painted tonight. I don't know when the Warhounds will be out. I would imagine two weeks or so. Probably a month on the outside. I know this upcoming week Rogue Trader comes out and then they are doing an AoS beastmen thing the week after so it might come out at the same time as that or the week after. The coast really isn't too bad for what you get in the starter set. It comes with about $400 USD worth of stuff for the $290 USD price tag. The Warlord titans are big models and the knights are really nice. I think they would have done better to put two Reavers in instead of the Warlords and release the Warlords at the same time and the Reavers by themselves a couple of weeks later. Had they done this they could have shave about $100 USD off the price of the big boxed set (two Reavers at $60 USD each = $120 USD, two Warlords at $110 USD each = $220. USD) That may have been a low enough price point to get more people to buy in. As it was it wasn't too high though as they sold out on-line pretty quickly. I've only tried the rules out once so far with my two completed Warlords. It was a little creaky on my first try but I have another game scheduled for Friday so I will give it a proper try then and try to find the rules that I couldn't find playing the first time between now and then. |

Thanks Pictors! I've decided to go in for the Master Edition for my birthday. I too would have preferred Reavers with the basic game. I'll probably pick up 2 eventually. Warhounds are what I'm really jonesing for. I used to have 8 of the old Epic ones. Im assuming the new plastic one's will be $35 USD-$40, which would let me pick up 6 for a decent hunting pack. I know GW has been adamant that they will not remake Epic but does anyone think they might release some Hours Heresy era titan hunting tanks? That sure would be cool. |
Pictors Studio | 12 Sep 2018 8:38 p.m. PST |
I don't know how adamant they have been. The rule book has several places where it says "a future supplement might have rules for other stuff in it" or things like that. I would not bet that other stuff doesn't come out eventually. They might limit it to imperial forces though given the setting of the game. Which would be fine by me. If I had to guess on the price of the Warhounds I'd guess they will be about $30 USD each, maybe two for $60. USD |

Got me Reavers done!

"The rule book has several places where it says "a future supplement might have rules for other stuff in it" or things like that. I would not bet that other stuff doesn't come out eventually" Yeah, I couldn't help but notice in the pictures, the building roofs look like they might be suited for infantry stands. I didn't want to get my hopes up though. I'd be cool with Imperial Army. Rolling Baneblade and Shadowsword detachments around the battlefield. @Mongoose, nice stuff Brother! |
Pictors Studio | 13 Sep 2018 10:31 a.m. PST |
Here are my Warlords with some scattered buildings. They should make their actual battlefield debut tomorrow.
You do get an impressive number of buildings in the basic set. I made mine into seven different buildings. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 13 Sep 2018 10:38 a.m. PST |
Beautiful work Pictors. Your traitor Warlord looks like he is letting out an evil belly laugh over his loud speakers. "At that price of the Grand Master box or Warlords, no-way I can get that passed the wife." Dude, I sooo know your pain Brother. Luckily, my birthday is in October. |
Pictors Studio | 13 Sep 2018 11:39 a.m. PST |
He does kind of look like that from that angle. I thought, when I built him, that he looked like he was taking a hit from a volcano cannon. In the background of the first picture you can see my first Reaver. He will hopefully be done today if this heart transplant thing doesn't get in the way. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 14 Sep 2018 10:58 p.m. PST |
An odd rules question for anyone who's read them. Is there any rule for difficult ground or rough terrain that could hamper movement? (I'm thinking building ruins or very large she'll holes, shallow rivers, etc…). |
Pictors Studio | 14 Sep 2018 11:43 p.m. PST |
Yes. There is difficult terrain, open terrain, dangerous terrain and impassible terrain. Difficult terrain slows you by half. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 15 Sep 2018 12:31 p.m. PST |
Gracias Amigo. That should let me do some planetary bombardment size craters on my table. |
Pictors Studio | 16 Sep 2018 7:30 p.m. PST |
Terrain is an interesting question. In our first game we just put out the buildings we had from the set but I'm going to go dig my 6mm stuff out of my storage unit. One thing I definitely decided I needed was craters. When a titan goes hamster hooey and the gooey kablooey you need a pretty decent size crater or at least scorched earth template for it. The blast is so big you pretty much need some absolutely ruined buildings too. Also they don't always explode, sometimes they just fall down. If that happens you will need some wrecked titans. |
