We stole a working prototype in a daring covert operation, but it's taken 36 years to reverse engineer the technology. The Soviet scientists who developed the technology were ultimately disloyal to the USSR, and were all killed in a shootout during the theft of the prototype. |

Don't forget that there was a book (two, actually) before there was a movie about the MiG31 theft. My guess is that there was some barracks trollop listening to the guys brag and then telling those stories to someone else, like what happened with Blind Man's Bluff. |
