It's my observation that on social media in general – TMP included – it's become the fad to question people's motives. "What did you mean by that?" "Is that a dogwhistle?" "What was your real reason for posting that?" I think this is fundamentally pointless. If you want to know someone's motive in posting something, send them a PM – and even then, you might not believe their reply. Frankly, you just may never know what their intention was. Since motives are so difficult to determine, it is easy to imagine that scary people are all around you on the internet, making posts that only hint at their true intentions. But that's getting kind of paranoid, isn't it? Discussion becomes arduous when people are constantly questioning what other people's secret motives are. It just makes a person look like they are projecting onto the other person. So I wish people would stop all the speculating about 'why' someone posted whatever. |

Why would you even post this? What are you telling us? That we should just TRUST the strangers around use to have good intentions? I'm kidding, of course… please don't Dawghouse me for this! But all silliness aside, I invite people to question what I mean. It has been brought to my attention many times (mostly by my wife) that I sometimes use the english language differently than other people. And that can be very confusing for other people. Sometimes I am too blunt, sometimes too circumlocutious. So, please ask if y'all don't understand. Worm. |

It could be that the questions are a request for clarification not of "paranoia". |

What is worse is when people assign motives to what others wrote. |

As long as any question, difference of opinion, etc., is done in a mature adult way. Even using a little humor … If nothing else agreeing to disagree and move on. I don't think there should be a problem. But as we see … it was always not that way here, IIRC/AFAIK. However it appears to have gotten much better on TMP. And is rampant on the net in general. Easy to say anything when someone is not face-to-face. |

I'm sure Stanislavsky would have something to say about this topic. |
