Even with the move to Lancaster, Historicon wasn't on our schedule until the last days of pre-registration, and even then I could only pull off a Saturday Day Trip, with my daughter Maja.

It looks like you spent some time in the HAWKs room. Glad you had a good time.

You should have stuck around for the Armies for Kids game. We only had three players and had four sets of armies to give away.

You are a good father, sir. Glad you both enjoyed yourselves.

BTW, the "parking lot" at the dealer hall you referred to is being transformed into a patio and "garden" area for their wedding facility. From what I understand the parking lot will be below the old tennis barn and has not been started yet (wondering if they plan to connect it to the entrance road that serves the outlets?).

In any case, access for the vendors to the hall will only get worse for our next two shows there. This building will not work long term for out needs as it will not be designed to accommodate a show like ours and we have outgrown it. Good to see the show moving.

They really need to allow people to use the side exit instead of attempting to force people to walk all the way around. I can't imagine how annoying the loading situation was. The whole place badly needs an entrance facing the hotel.

Oh, and thanks for the free beer BTC.

I remember you and her from The Weekend 2017. We played Blood and Plunder (pirate game). She was an absolute joy to be around.

It was a pleasure to meet you and your daughter. I hope you had a good visit.

Hey John! Give Maja another week and she may challenge Andy to a Civil War trivia contest.

I promise you, none of the answers will involve the Titanic.

How does the Armies for Kids game not get filled up? I'd expect a line of kids waiting for an opening?

surdu200516 Jul 2018 7:11 p.m. PST

It used to always be full. The last couple of years we have gotten fewer and fewer kids. It may be time to give the Armoes for Kids project a rest.

The Armies for Kids game filled in prereg, there was one no-show. One of the parents in the game said that he heard a mom and daughter at their previous game talking about AFK.

I think that we made a mistake scheduling it for 7 pm. This game is for younger kids and the ones in the game were really out of gas half way through. Perhaps the fourth player fell asleep during dinner.

Glad you posted her picture. I saw a different father-daughter pair at Historicon with the poor girl obviously bored out of her mind, stumbling along behind her dad and rolling her eyes. Sort of like mine looked when I would drag them to a civil war reenactment. :)

My youngest (7) would be acting like that. She's good for about 8 hours at the local RPG convention with a full kid's tract to keep her occupied. She spent the day with pedicures, movies, and ice cream with Mom.

Any project or program that hooks the imagination and curiosity of youth (and sneakily addicts them to seeking more info on the side) deserves our support.
Cheers to ViscountEric and all who expose their family and friends to the mind-opening side-effects of wargaming.
