I recently came upon a couple of pictures on the web ( link ) of figures of Josef, Freiherr Von Smola painted in what could be described as an artillery version of an Austrian general's uniform. It does look very nice but with my limited knowledge, I don't know if this is a speculative thing or not. Was there a different uniform for generals of artillery or did they wear the standard white uniform? Would a Korps' artillery be typically commanded by an officer of General rank?

While I'm at it, what about an officer like General-Major Stoichevich, who commanded the Grenzkorps at Goscpic in 1809?

Thanks,
John

Von Smola is wearing the uniform of an Oberst (colonel) one rank below the generalcy. It does look similar in pattern to a general's uniform. Von Smola did enter the generalcy but there was no special uniform for an artillery general (unlike, say, the Bavarians) so he would have gone into the white full dress or pale blue undress of the rank.

Ah, thank you. He looks so good there had to be an explanation :-)

Cheers,
John
