I am finishing up some figures for games in German East Africa in the great war. Planning to use Studio Tomahawk Congo rules so I do not need many figures. I do want to have a flag bearer for each side. The German flag is puzzling. I find two options around the net. Which would be appropriate? The War Ensign link or the national flag link
or
The Osprey book on the campaign takes the easy way out and shows plate with the colors cased :( thanks |

The war ensign, if any were carried at all. The other possibility is naval flags from the Konigsberg. |

The flag from the Königsberg was used. In The Brussels Royal Army Museum there is a flag that was captured in East Africa, it is the German tricolor with the Imperial Eagle in the center. The Linke Museum of the German Colonies in Rödelsee, Germany has the same pattern flag that is identified as belonging to the 7th South West African Schutztruppe Field Company. Here is a photo of an East African askari with the flag.
