My father visited Paris once. He said he'd go back to Milan before he returned, and he was mugged in Milan. He said they were still more polite to him in Milan than they were in Paris. |

I had a good time in Paris and everyone I met was very polite. |

I loved everything about Paris, especially the Parisians. OK, also great were the coffee, the wine, the cheese, the bike riding along the Seine … Anyway, I want to go back and stay longer. Also, it was often easier to use French in Paris than to use English in London. One people divided by a common language, indeed! Oscar Wilde understood: "They say that when good Americans die they go to Paris," chuckled Sir Thomas… "Really! And where do bad Americans go to when they die?" inquired the Duchess. "They go to America," murmured Lord Henry. Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Ch. 3. |

Well, I can't speak from personal experience. When I was stationed in Germany I had NATO orders instead of a passport. I could travel to Austria, Switzerland or Sweden on NATO orders, but not to France. |

I'd rather go to France than Paris. |

I will have to agree with Pictor. My one time in Paris, everyone was super nice, polite and quite helpful. I wish that we had more time to spend in that city. |

Of the many times I've been to Paris, I've always been delighted by the city & its inhabitants. It'll help if you speak a little French. I also find an opportunity to indicate that although I'm an English speaker, I'm neither English nor American, neither of whom enjoy great popularity amongst the Parisians. I don't think they've got over the 100 Years War yet & those cheap cracks about "Surrender Monkeys" you heard a few years ago rankled. So, "Je suis écossais" or "Je suis australien" depending on how I'm feeling. |

Never been there myself. Wouldn't mind going someday. |

"…those cheap cracks about "Surrender Monkeys" you heard a few years ago rankled." Yeah. And the French habit of calling us Nazis whenever they think it's safe doesn't win them any American friends outside of our coastal enclaves. But forswearing my country in the hope of getting politeness out of the French seems a poor trade. |

forswearing ? I am Scottish and Australian ie 2 passports. You seem to have a problem with the French. |
