The Marine Corps is now arming its Osprey tiltrotor aircraft with a range of weapons to enable its assault support and escort missions in increasingly high-threat combat environments…

For a moment there I had visions of highly trained Ospreys swooping down with rifles in their talons. 😁

I wonder if they will push for an armed escort tilt rotor with a different size and design? The article hinted at it.

The way I read the headline I thought my beloved Corps was ordering us to attack birds.

Considering that the V22 was originally supposed to be armed, it's about damn time!

My guess is that the Marines are going to finally get in on the Future Vertical Lift program. I think the Navy is in on it and insisting that all birds have full sea-corrosion protection.

Either that or a Hind-like version of the V280 Valor for a gunship.

Isn't the Osprey a bit 'delicate' for this kind of operation?

Bill – not according to the pilots I've spoken to that fly them. They are high maintenance but pretty rugged. Missile pods are the current favorite amount the testers.

I love watching these birds fly over my house on almost a daily basis.
