After a month long slump, there is a new post up on my blog. On the "Other Gaming Items: Vietnam" page, I have posted a look at the currently available 15mm Patrol Boat River kits. As always, please drop by and comments are appreciated.

Today, I played a Sudan game of Colonial British (me) vs. Mahdists (Kurt, the other guy.) We played 24 points a side, with a scenario that involved the British destroying buildings. The British lost at the end, my philosophy being if I killed everyone, I could blow up the buildingscat my leisure. If I could have gotten off one more volley before they closed…

Yea I was wondering how this wound up on the Vietnam thread myself.
But the game looks like it was fun. I don't play'm, but 54's always look great.

Nice looking game. You're gonna have to go back and teach these pesky Mahdists a lesson!

Sorry guys, for some reason I keep forgetting to put a link. The URL is: link . Once there, look for the "Other Gaming Items: Vietnam" page, and it is the second entry.

BrianW,
Thanks for the PBR link, those look pretty good. Had no idea anyone did anything more than the PBR in 15mm.

Brian,

Nice review. Glad to see you are still doing Nam. You see I am smitten by the Brown water navy right now. I have the Peter Pig boat and just picked up the Battlefrount one off Combat Painter. You are right there is no amid ship weapons. that said I happen to have a standing LMG figure as well as a thump gunner figure that would both work there. I guess they expect folks to have that. Would be nice if they mention that to the neophytes though. I don't have the Gomi one but did pick up a Gomi Tango and monitor from CP and while not as slick as Battlefronts, they do the job fine once painted. Battlefront does give you decals which I like though. ( Though no decals in the PBR box.)
Again thanks for the review. With all this Nam stuff I haven't played Post Captain in months!

Joe,
Yeah, like every other gamer out there I bounce back and forth between projects. I put a post and poll up on my blog a couple of months ago about keeping it strictly sailing ships, or opening up to other areas. Since the response was overwhelmingly "other stuff too," I added the Vietnam and MAW pages. In truth though, Mexican-American is probably a dead end.

I also have a Gomi Tango boat that I bought a few years ago. Yes, not as slick as Battlefront, but Tim is at least responsive to his customers, unlike those other guys! Also, with a little tinkering the Gomi Tango can be made to look even better than the BF ones, in my opinion. I added a mast, chain on the aft winch, and some HO scale tires on the side of mine. As far as I'm concerned, I'd put it up against anyone's. I'll send you some pics when I get home tonight.
