I would rate the Lancaster above the B-17 myself. |

Apples and oranges, the B-29 was designed much later than all the others, it was a technological generation later. |

The Lancaster and B-17 were designed for different roles and to compare them is not reality. If a Lancaster were to be flown on a day mission in the situation that the B-17s were flown they would have suffered many times more casualties then the B-17. The Lancaster was a night bomber with maximum bomb load and minimum protection. |

Did each have 4 engines? That's the only criterion set up. I voted for the B-17 for the same reasons I would vote for T-34 and/or Sherman as "Best Tank". Numbers, does the job, reliability. (Going over my choice, perhaps the unsung B/24 was a better choice. ) Have at it. link Voting for the B-29 is like voting for the Tiger II. |

@Winston Smith: Going by that criteria, I'd definitely have to say the B24. More numbers than the B17. Plus, the B24s have air-to-air kills of German bombers! |
