I would have preferred movies that were extremely difficult to see or own. Like April Morning.
If I own Zulu, why would I want to watch it at a convention?

More fun to watch with a group of wargamers, maybe?

Exactly! When GenCon was still held in Lake Geneva at the Horticultural Hall, Zulu and Alexander Nevsky were shown regularly. The covered walkways had canvas covers on the inside in case of rain. One would be unfurled and the movies were shown on it. We would watch on the grass underneath an open sky. Still one of my fondest memories after all these years.

Those movies would be fun to watch with a group of wargamers specifically so I can be told about all the inaccuracies, it would be a thrill a minute.

Better get DVD copies of Zulu, if you do not have one.
