I was watching First Bull Run battle-scenes and noticed a small number of Confederates in Revolution period uniforms. Check them out to the left of Stonewall Jackson. What was that all about? youtu.be/DG9fLiBhjME?t=36 |

Militia uniform, at 1st Bull Run many of the volunteer units were still dressed in their militia uniforms. before the war militias were allowed to design their uniforms. |

While some pre war militia had AWI type uniforms, I don't know if they have any documented use in combat. |

Agreed – a few militia units had AWI-style uniforms including tricornes like the Putnam Phalanx from Connecticut who were styled on Washington's Continental Army – including drill regs – but I don't think too many actually wore them into combat link |
