I have almost finished an army of about 800 28mm ACW figures based 4 to a stand on 1.5x1.5 bases. I have RFF, Johnny Reb II, Carnage and Gliry, and Gettysburg Soldiers for rule sets. Any suggestions on which set would work best with this basing and what modifications would need to be made?

Thanks guys

Almost anything should work with Carnage and Glory.

RFF should be workable, but a two stand deep line--I believe the rules call it a "solid" or "reinforced" line--is going to look really strange since the rules presume all infantry are based three to a base more or less in line.

Johnny Reb II will work, but you'll lose a lot of the flavor since Johnny Reb uses different numbers of castings on a base to represent different size units.

Gettysburg Soldiers I'm not familiar with.

You might look for original--brigade level--Fire and Fury or On to Richmond, both of which were written for pretty much your basing. So were Touched with Fire and Mr. Lincoln's War. And I think what you've got will work with the old Larry Brom ACW rules. I can't remember the title, but Lori Brom of SergeantsThree should be able to fix you up.

Adjustments. Most of these assume either a 1" or a 2" base. If there isn't a table for 1.5" bases, either take a 1" system and add 50% to all distances, or take a 2" system and use 75% of distances. (Taking a ruler and getting it reduced to 75% on a photocopier will work.)

If you're using 1.5" bases and distances and the rules are written for 1", do try for the deepest table you can handle. Otherwise you may lack depth for some scenarios.

Hope this helps.

For Gettysburg Soldiers, you will not need to make any modifications for 28mm figures, Each regiment should consist of 6 to 10 stands (depicting 300 to 500 men, the actual battle strength of most active ACW regiments). Casualties are simple stand removal. Firing and movement will work the same in 15mm and 28mm.

I'm kinda impressed you managed to fit four figures on 1.5x1.5 bases. That will make an impressive looking line of battle.

Larry Brom's rules for ACW are 'A Glint of Bayonets'
(available from Sergeants3DOTcom).

I've used them for years and the basing is not crucial,
providing both sides are based the same.

Figure size does not matter either, since Larry included
a conversion scale for different sized figures.
