After playing a trial game to just get a feel for the rules, we finally embarked on a first play through where we felt we had a reasonable grasp of the rules. This was Mutay I from the Enduring Freedom supplement. I played the Taliban and found just how deadly the fire of well trained regulars can be. We like the system and found that once we had grasped the basics it played quickly and smoothly. A full AAR is here Mutay I AAR

Nice looking game. They are a good set of rules once you wrap your head around the key mechanisms. |

Played quite a bit when the original Ambush Alley came out. Somehow with FoF, things changed. |

Beautiful game. What figures are you using for this? |

What figures are you using for this? The British are all from Empress Miniatures and the Taliban are a mix of Empress and Eureka. All lovely figures. |

Nice game. I really enjoy FoF. I do have several house rules to better incorporate leadership and the fire sequence but I love the pacing of the battle. I agree it plays even better with a campaign game. The one included in the book is not bad. Of course I am partial to the set I wrote. Have fun! Joe |

Thanks. I feel leadership is under valued in the rules, so I'd be interested in hearing your house rules, if you'd care to share them? |

TP, I have an article for WI in the que about FOF but it has been a while. Th gist of my changes are: There are 3 classes of leaders cleverly named good, average and poor. Average leaders play as per the rules. Good leaders +1 to their reaction rolls and add 1 die to morale rolls. Poor leaders -1 to reaction rolls and subtract 1 die from morale rolls. They also apply their modifiers to variable movement. I also have rules for "bold" leaders and "hesitant" leaders. I ported over the concept of "leadership checks" from Platoon Forward to FOF FOW cards so occasionally leaders lose situational awareness and can do weird ( or not so weird ) things. [ Any PF players do this; consider some or all of the FOW weather cards as leadership checks on the force drawing the card.] Anyway start with the good/average/poor leadership and tell me what you think. Hopefully WI will get around to publishing the articles. Cheers Joe EDIT: Just realized my leadership rules are with my French Foreign Legion article for FoF which I haven't submitted yet to WI. I have waiting for them to publish my AAR on a 3 player African scenario involving a Brittney Spears type singer and my article on building african hovels. |
