"After the disappointing box office of Solo: A Star Wars Story, a new report says Lucasfilm has put all future Star Wars Story standalone movies on hold. That means, at least for now, no Boba Fett movie, no Obi-Wan movie, and no Solo spinoffs.

The news comes via Collider mere days after another report that a whopping nine Star Wars movies were in development and, well, that was probably true. In addition to the Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett movies that were definitely in the works, there are the new film series' by Rian Johnson as well as David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Those two series are still in development and, according to the report, are likely to lead the next phase of the Star Wars saga…."

Does this mean we won't be getting "Young Jar-Jar Binks?"

Guys, I'm going to say it one last time, then go back to my 10mm ACW. Pretty much everything worth watching out of Hollywood in the past 30 years got out because no one important in the studios much cared. Once it becomes a franchise, they care. Then they want to do three things, all bad:
--They want to sacrifice story-telling to setting up sequels.
--They want to sell lots of toys. And
--They want to Make a Statement. By this they mean pushing the wonderful New Morality they invented and telling everyone how to vote in the next election.

Enjoy the good movies when you find them. But expecting them out of billion-dollar franchises is betting against the dice.

So no "Jar Jar Binks: The Tadpole Days"?

The SW sandbox is not nearly as big as the MCU. Disney should stick to making Marvel movies and Pixar fare like 'The Incredibles.'

With the imminent acquisition of Fox's entetainment branch by Disney, the X-Men and Deadpool properties are about to be folded into the MCU.

The Last Jedi killed it for me.

The Last Jedi was so bad many fans refused to see Solo in protest.

Good news, stopped watching after the first 3. At least we won't be bombarded with hype for a "new" SW story.

I really enjoyed the animated series and would like to see more like them. I was one of this folks who wasn't interested in going to see Solo because the last five movies have been so bad. I heard the Solo was actually good from someone whose opinion is of interest to me, so I may watch it on Netflix when it comes out.

Vigilant22 Jun 2018 3:45 a.m. PST

Solo was a good heist movie. I'm not sure what was so bad about Last Jedi. It wasn't as good as Rogue One, but it was infinitely better than Episodes 1 to 3. In any event, they are just movies not anything important. The hysteria amongst some fans against the recent films makes me convinced that care in the community certainly isn't working.

Interesting because I thought the side movies were way better then the episodes where VII was a rehash of a New Hope and VIII was just flat out a horrible insult.

What they really should do is create a whole new cast of characters set in the Old Republic or something like that, but that would require them to actually put some effort in storytelling instead of relying on others work and CGI.

Maybe a bit premature.

I am uninterested in anything Disney Star Wars short of seeing the seppuku of Kathleen Kennedy and Rian round-head Johnson. I am not going to go see Episode IX as I no longer give a damn about anything that happens in the SW universe. SW The Last Straw sucked so bad it make the previously mediocre SW The Farce Awakens unwatchable. We need to find Luke. No, it turns out, you really don't.

Disney isn't going to buckle under the pressure of a few crying Social Injustice Warrior man-babies who are clamoring for Kathleen Kennedy's head or trying to have TLJ struck from the SW canon and remade the way they (the crybabies) want. Occasional speed bumps like 'Solo' are more than overcome by Disney's many other properties. If Lucasfilm release SW films less frequently, maybe one every two to three years, they should be okay. Two within months of each other like 'Solo' on the heels of TLJ is simply too much.

Two within months of each other like 'Solo' on the heels of TLJ is simply too much.

And certainly not helped by a marketing campaign that felt like it was bought to you by the team that masterminded the John Carter of Mars campaign!

So 28mm Fanatik thinks I am a crying Social Injustice Warrior man-baby because I think Disney Star Wars is an oxymoron. Oh well. I also smell the stench of the Star Wars fatigue narrative. Marvel movies don't seem to have a problem with fatigue when they come out a few month apart. If Disney does not make movies I like, I will no longer go see them or buy the related merchandise. Seems like a lot of other folks thought like me. Like Ethan van Sciver says "Go get Daddy's Belt"

Marvel movies don't seem to have a problem with fatigue when they come out a few month apart.

Apples and oranges. As I said in my first post, the SW sandbox is rather small compared to Marvel's, which will get even bigger with Disney's takeover of Fox's film division. SW movies have a "sameness" to them that Marvel movies don't.

I agree with Forbes commentator Scott Mendelson's take. In 'Star Wars,' sometimes "less is more."
