Shame you didn't enjoy the game. Well, it's a first edition that incorporates open ended designs, and first edition rules are usually open to exploitation by min-maxing types. My group once played a campaign (completely different ruleset) that was spoiled by someone who exploited some design loopholes in the rules. It was 100% legal, and he was scrupulously honest and fair during play – but it damn near ruined the game for us because of that bad taste in our mouths, playing such a lopsided army. Took a few years before we played it again, amongst those of us who just enjoyed the game, and the fun and weren't out to "solve" the rules. Sounds like your friend was just trying something different, and had no intention of trying to break the game. So I suspect you can come up with some houserule, or even a gentleman's agreement to make the game fair and fun. Honestly, I've never really liked the official "factions" , nor the Miyasaki high tech the Gaslands rules. Like you, I like the Mad Max, or Car Wars approach. But thanks for making the post! Fantastic builds and paintjobs on the cars! And love the hidden Canadian content on the nearest table in the first photo! |

Tony, thanks. Looks like we have a similar mindset. Yes, I don't think my friend was being deliberate and was indeed, trying something new. We will likely house rule something if we want to continue to try it out. It's our tradition to have Tim Horton's coffee when we play. :-) |
