Hello,

Do you have any wargamer recommendation book for the Normandy campaign?

I am looking mainly for TO&E, OB, daily accounts rather than the general view.

thank you

Sure--and it's online and free: link (that's the link to an overview, but if you go to the main pages, they have lots of material, including unit histories)

That said, if you want a paper book, I'm partial to link but then I live in Virginia and know several people who have served in the 29th ID.

For the US landings, both Airborne/Glider & Landing Craft the TO&E differed from the normal "on paper" lists. A good source for this info along with units like the demo engineers who landed to take care of obstacles, etc. would be "Spearheading D-Day – Jonathan Gawne.

For the standard Infantry, Armor, Airborne, etc. lists, two good sources would be the Nafziger Collection and Bayonet Strength.

If you are interested in detailed info on the individual German strongpoints on the beaches, Atlantikwall is a really neat site.

I'd highly recommend the Over the Battlefield series by Ian Daglish on Epsom, Goodwood and Bluecoat. Great level of detail and good use of aerial reconnaissance photos – the battle is actually in progress in one book and you see the tracks of individual tanks where they went forward and then zig-zagged in reverse to escape from AT fire.

thanks a lot for the suggestions (and the free books!)

I went with the following (which don't entirely cover my initial criteria but they looked interesting):

Six Armies in Normandy: From D-Day to the Liberation of Paris
Keegan, John

Overlord: D-Day and the Battle for Normandy, 1944
Hastings, Sir Max

Normandy Battlefields: Bocage and Breakout: From the Beaches to the Falaise Gap
Leo Marriott, Simon Forty

D DAY Through German Eyes – stories from June 6th 1944

And, for the wargamer in you, suggest "D-day: The strategy, the men, the equipment" MBI publishing 2001. A tremendous amount of color photos of uniforms and small arms, patches and the like. Essential for painting up your force and a fair amount of information.

The Over the Battlefield series appear to have fairly cheap options on Amazon and some if allow a "look inside". Maybe cheaper elsewhere but seriously the best I have read.

got the Over the Battelfied series, found them cheap.
