The Army is testing and prototyping self-generating "Ironman-like" soldier exoskeletons, designed to massively change combat missions by supporting soldier movement, generating electricity, powering weapons systems and substantially lowering the weight burden of what troops carry in war… link |

"The project, formally called Tactical Light Operator Suit, or TALOS, is aimed at providing special operators, such as Navy SEALs and Special Forces, with enhanced mobility and protection technologies, a Special Operations Command, or SOCOM, statement said." I predicted this. It's probably the only thing I got right! I used to work for a company called VisionGain (a defence industry market research firm) and I wrote a report on Future Soldier Systems 2010-2020 in which I said that the US Army would be fielding Special Forces units equipped with exoskeletons by the mid-late 2020s, followed by a general rollout to the Army in the 2040s or 2050s. Powered armour is coming, and it's coming by the end of this century. |

Hyperbole is the standard operating procedure for any news outlet. At least for their headlines. |

I remember rocket jet packs from newsreels in the 60s or thereabouts. They were supposed to revolutionize warfare as we know it. |
