I think first prize should go to Nagaoka Gaishi (1858-1933):
Got anyone better? Dan PS. These guys don't stand a chance against him:

Wasn't it Blackbeard who tied lighted slow match in his beard? That would qualify him for me. Also just go to a shopping mall & watch some of the "hair dos" . |

Yours is tough to beat, Cacique. Are there any photos of him? Might have to look. link The Japanese grew some impressive facial hair back in the day. One of the IJA commanders in Burma (Kawabe) had a mighty stache, though it didn't seem to help him much in the end. link Finally, someone once quipped that the Sikh Khalsa – at the time of their two slugfests with the British in India – was possibly the hairiest army in history. Not sure such a thing is provable, but even inspiring a comment like this in the "Age of Whiskers" is still noteworthy! |

Lol. Check this out. I didn't know there were t-shirts and other stuff made using images of Nagaoka Gaishi and his whiskers. Dan

Gaishi-san's mustache may be a ninja gliding device, providing enough lift to allow a safe descent from the top of a castle wall. |

You didn't say human …
… the gypsy vanner (and a few other breeds of horse) grow beards and moustaches. Unless you deal with those specific breeds, this is pretty bizarre. |
