Three converted tanks to proxy as Leman Russ Punishers, in my Squat Astra Millitarum army:

Nice work —
Cue the Squat Chorus to start singing Katyusha!

I still need to add decals but I am putting together a tank company (ten tanks) and will wait until they are all painted before I have a 'decal day'.

The gun barrels are made from sprue with two bits of a pen body at the front and rear.

The Las-Cannons are from a Space Marine, Centurion kit.

The Squat is a home sculpt with green stuff (which was also used for a bit of gap filling on the guns).

The tanks are Meng 'World War Toon' King Tiger tanks.

Looking good.

With those three done, it's on to Plasma-Annihilator variants. In order to make the Plasma Cannons, I took some of these:

Chopped a small segment from a couple and glued them inside some pen lids to get these:

After gluing them to the mantles and adding a bit of green-stuff, they were primed and ended up looking like this:

I haven't assembled the three tanks yet… but this one has been assembled, ready for the wash stage (shown with a WIP pic of the previously shown Punisher with tank commander):

Once these three are done, I'll be looking to build three with Battle-Cannons and the lead tank with a Vanquisher-Cannon.

Well done

Fan-freakin-tastic. I have a Meng that was going to do conversion work on. You've given me some ideas.

The plasma cannons are a work of genius! Though the tanks need some stowage IMO.

Capt Flash05 Jun 2018 6:18 p.m. PST

Great job on these. I'm impressed with the creativity and the squats are ace!

Really brilliant stuff!
Those tanks really have a great RT/2ndEd look to them and I checked and found them to be quite afforable.

And the fact that you sculpted the squat is seriously impressive.

Cheers :)

Less than half-price Leman Russ tanks seemed an obvious choice, however, not all of the Meng World War Toon tanks are the same size and the King Tiger is the only one that is of a similar size to the Leman Russ (although it has a shorter hull but taller turret to make up for it)… all of the others are smaller and some are almost half the size so you need to watch yourself and do a bit of online research first :)

Once the full tank company is done (I plan another three with battle cannons and one with a Vanquisher for the company commander), I am almost tempted to convert a few King Tigers into Chimeras, instead of converting them from 1/35th scale vehicles…

Here's a high quality (Windows Paint) mock-up of the markings for my tank company:

I have all the decals I need for all ten tanks. The yellow shape changes for each platoon/command so there will be 3 triangles, 3 squares and 3 circles with a diamond as the company commander.

I have all the decals except the names… but I have LOTS of decals which can be altered for that… or I can just paint the names (so they are properly individual).

First plasma tank done (apart from decals) with the second one now on the table :) :

Very cool !

Insomniac15 Jun 2018 9:13 a.m. PST

Cheers.

The fifth tank (the second plasma-tank) has now been finished (except for decals) and I am now working on the tank commander for the sixth tank (also a plasma-tank). It is going slowly but I am getting there.

I have also ordered four more King Tigers so that I can convert three to have standard battle cannons and one to have a vanquisher battle cannon (for the company commander).

I am still working on the design for the battle cannons though… I may go for a 'T' shaped barrel brake, rather than the cylindrical one that is common on Leman Russ battle cannons… a bit like this one:

The three plasma tanks are finished now (except for decals):

I have now started on three with Battle-Cannons and have chosen a different option to the one in my previous post :) .

Insomniac30 Jun 2018 9:22 a.m. PST

The remaining four tanks for the tank company :) :

The one of the left is waiting for an Agrax wash, the one next to it is waiting for priming/base-coating, the one next to that is waiting for a commander to be sculpted before Priming/base-coating and the opne on the right is the overall company command tank and is waiting for a commander and hull weapon to be sorted out before priming/base-coating.

The weather has been humid so I have avoided most of the painting/sculpting and have just been assembling and gap-filling. I think that I will need to replenish a few paints (namely the green spray) to finish them all… but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

The latest tank commander (he's lost and trying to find his location on his digi-map):

His platoon (Battle Cannons):

They are washed, ready for stippling and dry-brushing :) .

Insomniac16 Jul 2018 11:51 a.m. PST

All finished (except for decals) and onward to the Company Command Tank:

Next up is a proxy Chimera:
