Does anyone know if Dettol will strip enamel paint from metal figures? Also is there an alternative?

If it doesn't then try isopropyl alcohol, available from Amazon and other retailers.

My guide for stripping miniatures with Dettol hope it helps.

As always, comments are appreciated.

Take care

You can get isopropyl alcohol in either 70% or 90% concentration from any pharmacy. At Walmart it's around a dollar a pint.

However, I have found enamel paint the most difficult to strip.
Good luck.

If you are willing to observe the proper safety precautions then Acetone is your friend.

Wear safety glasses, gloves and use a pyrex/glass container with a secure lid.

Place miniatures in container. Carefully pour in Acetone to cover. Ensure lid is secure as Acetone evaporates quickly.

Wait an hour and scrub miniatures with toothbrush.

Rinse with warm water.

I've used Dettol successfully

One thing to watch out for with Dettol is water.

Mixing Dettol with water on painted figures will make an unholy mess. Get as much of the paint loosened as possible with a toothbrush then rub as much off with kitchen paper before a final rinse in water.

Dettol/paint/water combination just produces an emulsified goo.

Can you get MEK in the UK? It's the best stripper for paint on metals I've ever used. Nasty toxic stuff but it sure does the job.
