Hi All I am sourcing flags for my 28mm Sudan project. Perry Miniatures supply a few with their plastic figures, Flag Dude, Flags of War, War Flag, and The Armchair General have offerings too. Does anyone have experience of these, and, if so, what is the print quality like? That is the detail/resolution of the design. Posts of reasonably large close-up photos would be welcome (which unfortunately none of the manufacturers listed have on their web sites). Flag Dude

I painted my own from a range of sources. They aren't as hard to do as I initially thought they would be. The greatest advantage of painting your own is that you're not limited to what somebody else produces. Why not have a go and see how you get on, start with simple one and go from there. |

You do realize, Jack Jones, that the reason high resolution photos are not on the web is because if there were, nobody would need to purchase the flags, as they could simply print them. I can vouch for tVAG and the Flag Dude. Their offerings are very lovely, and of wonderful resolution. Good luck with your project. |

Hi chicklewis Thanks for the good wishes :-) I do understand that in respect of high resolution images of flat items. It is surprising (to me) that there aren't any good quality photos of the flags in use. For example, this is claimed to be one of the Flag Dude‘s, but looks to be a very pixellated rendering, which simply isn't going to be good enough:
from this blog page link So … is this the actual quality of the Flag Dude's offering, or has something gone awry here? Cheers JJ |

I see your point, JJ. This is the first Flag Dude flag showing such pixellation I have seen. But I'm no actual expert on the line. |

Hi All I have had a lengthy and informative correspondence with Patrick (Virtual Armchair General). I have discovered that the key feature of his flags is that the artwork is vector, (digitally described outlines) which are scalable up as well as down without loss of quality. The Flag Dude example above shows the consequences of using raster artwork (which only scales down), where the straight edges of pixels are visible. I will, therefore, be ordering from VACG :-) Cheers JJ |
