With Historicon only 40 days and nights away, here is a topical poll:

"Which is the best day to attend, if you can only go on one day?"

Possible poll answers:

Day 1: Thursday. Fewest people, best games, first pick on the flea market treasures, available parking spaces, bathrooms are still habitable.

Day 2: Friday. More people but still not a mob. Good games, flea market improving as more people attend. Vendors haven't sold out of new items. Parking is possible. Bathrooms are OK.

Day 3: Saturday. Most people. Best game selection. Greatest number of flea market tables. Vendors at top of game. Parking is horrible. Bathrooms are worse.

Day 4: Sunday. Fewest people. Minimal games. Flea market tables are the remains of what didn't sell before. Parking is easy! Inexpensive. Urine smell is decaying away in bathrooms.

None of the above.

If you don't attend all four days you are not a true gamer!

I live on a different continent and can't attend.

I would rather have my brains eaten out by aliens than enter the Lancaster Host/drive north of the Mason-Dixon Line/drive south of the NJ turnpike/interact with THOSE people/other reason.

;-)

But really Saturday. Seminars are usually Saturday, more games, more people but, as you say it's the Host so parking is horrible. Restrooms… haven't been since the reconstruction started so can't say.

So come early and don't move your auto till you leave.

edit.

If you can't do Saturday then Friday. If you can't do Friday or Saturday why bother?

Saturday.

Friday because a lot of people are there and the excitement is still mounting. An upward curve of gaming. Traders still have good stocks of their products(?). Local restaurants are not weekend busy.
Just thoughts.

If you like s a quiet life or big naval game then Sunday,
Hope you enjoy the show.

I'd say all 4, but if it had to be one day it's Saturday. Get there early and dont move until youre ready to leave.

Friday is the best day. You have a full day at the dealer hall and the gaming room. Friday evening is probably the busiest in terms of games.

Saturday night things have started to peter out a bit and there are a lot fewer games. Saturday may have more people overall, but Friday is where it is at.

If you could do one overnight I would get there Friday afternoon and stay until five or so on Saturday.

That's what I am doing this year! More due to other time requirements than my desires. It's all good though!

I've always at least stayed overnight, but in the abstract, I'd say Friday--two flea market sessions, and the dealers shouldn't be out of anything critical yet. Full slate of games. If you're not paying the Host for a room, you've got no valid gripe about parking some distance off. (And for crying out loud, stop stealing all the ice to restock your coolers! I'm tired of people freeloading off the Host then coming to TMP to complain about the facilities they're using but not paying for.)

But let's be realistic here. If you're renting a room, you're not talking a day. At the least, you're talking afternoon of one day and the morning of the next--in which case, you probably want Friday PM and Saturday AM. If you're a day tripper, you probably live close enough to attend multiple days, or pick your trip to nail a specific game. If you're travelling 200+ miles, are you really only going to attend one day?

I've skipped conventions, but I've never traveled serious distance for one day. (OK, once. But not a major.)
