My father, Chester F. Carlson, 132nd Inf, Americal Division (south Pacific Theater), received a bronze star that none of us knew about until after he died in 1973 and it was noted on his grave marker at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.

My Grandfather (WWI) didn't get his because some idiot clerk wrote "none" instead of "one" under wounds on his discharge papers.
I was able to find proof digging through family papers and he received his about 30 years after he died.

thumbs up Korvessa

Now no where near as "important" as being awarded a PH. And no where near as "painful". But I left the ROK in '85. And finally got awarded a Korean Defense Service Metal in about 2015 … huh?.

Only after being told if I sent my DD214, etc., to the records people in St. Louis, MO[IIRC] I may get it awarded. After 22 months in the ROK, '84-'85 with 2 tours on the DMZ with a Mech Bn. My buddies at the VA, etc., told me to go ahead an send in my paperwork … So I did …

Now it's gathering dust still in the box on my book case like some of the others … Better late than never I guess … evil grin
