I was inside Maes How today. This amazing Neolithic chamber tomb is on Orkney and nearly 5000 years old.

Perhaps nearly as amazing as the tomb was one of my companions.
This tall, gaunt American wore what I think were Mayan runes around his neck. He had a pungent aroma which may, or may not, have been relevant.

After the guide explained to the ten of us various salient features of the structure, our friend launched into a rant. The substance included the information that after studying megalithic monuments for 30 years, he'd determined the Ancient people had used anti- gravity devices to move the gigantic slabs of stone.

I will mercifully draw a veil over the rest of the space cadet's rant.

Some mothers do have them.

Many tears back I was Stonehenge. There was a gentlemen sitting on a lawn chair with a number of cameras mounted on tripods aimed at the monument. He did nothing but sit. When I asked our guide about him, she said he was always there, waiting for the stones to move and to get photos of the event.

There are many Americans who seem to move about like stoned anti-gravity devices. Especially on holiday weekends.

Obviously, not just Americans.

BTW I was explaining my " close encounter" to the chap who runs the hotel I'm staying at and he said Orkney attracts some pretty odd characters.

Almost so common, that they're hardly worth commenting on.

Sounds like the same crowd that visits the Alie-Inn near area 51 in Nevada. Located in Rachel, Nevada.

This is only about 70 miles from where I live. About 113km for you who use metric. You want a weird "vibe" this is definitely a place for that.

Takes all kinds, Bathy.

Not sure what this was so I looked it up. Overhead images look like it's a UFO. I can only put two and two together and surmise there is more to it than meets the eye

I should mention the other incident when we visiting the Jarl's Palace in Kirkwall and the guide said its charter was signed in 1245.

Loud voice from an American woman: " Gee, Floyd, it's only 3 30. We just missed it."

Also, for those hardy souls who think they can "sneak" into area 51 for a peek. You WILL be sorry if you try it.
