"Sottotenente Riccardo Vaccari was assigned to the 97a Squadriglia, IX Gruppo, 4o Stormo on 8 July 1938. At this time the unit was equipped with Fiat CR.32s and based at Gorizia. The Squadriglia CO was Capitano Antonio Larsimont Pergameni. On 10 June 1940 the 97a Squadriglia was transferred to Treviso to protect the area above Venice and the refinery plants of Porto Marghera.
