Last one, I promise. How deep a table can you comfortably use for solo play? I've got just about a 3' reach, though a cluttered urban board can be awkward. Given a 4'x4' board, I need to be on two opposite sides to reach everyone.

If I was to play only from one side 3'x3'. 4'x4' would be ok if I could walk around but 4'x6' would be a little annoying.

I have a 5'x9' ping pong table. Guys have to get up and go over to the other side to move their troops sometimes.

Like FusilierDan, 3x3 if I have to do it all from one side. 4x4 can be managed, but its makes for some odd stretching to reach over terrain and the like on the far edge.
I used to have a 6x6 setup in the garage. It made for wonderful games of 5150.

My table was 7 feet wide and we used a small folding step stool if needed. We could walk around to the other side if we wanted to do that.

5x8 table. We just walk around if needed.

Yeah, my table is about 5'x 6' … has never been a problem … but all we did was 6mm at @ Co Tm/TF/Bn level. So that gives you pretty good maneuver room/space.

The limit is 42" (3 1/2'), but that is with one leg sticking out to the back as a counter weight. After the game the back of my knees hurt. The FLGS has 5' wide tables, at about 3' it's easier to start walking around.
Also limiting is table height. Specifically the distance from the top of the table to my bell, ah, to my loosely tucked shirt tails on the near side.

I expect everyone to walk around the table as necessary. I think that the largest I've used was 6' x 8'.

JimSelzer27 May 2018 4:01 p.m. PST

don't play solo so no opinion to offer

Old Contemptibles28 May 2018 3:34 a.m. PST

Wouldn't it be the same solo or non-solo?
