First of a linked set of poll suggestions. How small a stand can you comfortably handle? For me, the limit is 3/4" or 20mm. When I go down to 1/2" or 12mm it gets distinctly awkward. (Yes, of course I can use trays. That's not the point.)

5mm x 10mm (roughly) at the smallest…
I use irregular miniatures 2mm figure stands individually. No base, no nothing, just the 2mm casting on the table. So the command stands and chariots and such are even smaller like 5mm x 5mm (roughly), but they are rarer units on the table.

When the arthritis is troubling me I can still do 25mm round but just. On a good day 20mm is easily used.

Agree with Joes Shop about 20mm.

Yeah … about 20mm stands generally …

It depends on base thickness.
FOW bases: I lift them by the troops.
2mm thick bases: depends on troop density, is there room to get my fingers down to, and around the base?
Slot-a-bases: tall side walls, easy.

When I paint,I periodically have to stop until I get feeling back in my fingers.
