Oudenarde is perhaps one of the most interesting of Marlborough's battles. It is also the most difficult to wargame as it involved two armies coming together from the line of march.

To make this manageable I broke the battle down into two games. The first recreated the opening moves and we fought it with 28mm miniatures.

The second game took off where the first one ended, representing the developing battle in 15mm scale.

Excellent AAR and always have enjoyed your blog. Good to see the French win one, it doesn't happen often against Marlborough. :)

And before someone snaps back, yes, I realize he was not present, this is a game of lead soldiers.
