"About a year or so ago I posted that there seemed to be less activity in the world of wargames blogs and after taking some advice I linked my blog to Facebook in an effort to generate more interest Whilst I can understand why Facebook is a handy tool to expand readership and followers it is also a double edged sword. To be honest I really don't like the medium and find it increasingly unnerving as I invariably read the views of some people who frankly may have serious mental issues. Unfortunately I don't help because if I have a view I seem to have to express it. This would be fine if one was dealing with sensible people but nowadays they seem to be in the minority. It is many years since I was called a warmonger for playing with toy soldiers and I honestly found myself glowing with nostalgia when one woman became very irate at my love of all things military and a lover of war to boot. Anyway I have noticed that less and less wargamers are continuing with their blogs or are posting very intermittently. Now I appreciate that real life, families, jobs etc interferes with hobbies but I think that somehow blogs are losing their appeal…." Main page link Amicalement Armand

Not gone anywhere. Still posting regularly: colgar6.blogspot.co.uk I've seen other bloggers come and go over time. No idea if there's a net increase or decrease, but the stuff I look at seems as active as ever. Hugh |

It was the latest trendy thing. Most wargamers tend to flit form one thing to the next. Many will stick with their blogs but just as many will flit off to teh next shiny thing. My blog was mostly for my own entertainment so I post when I can be bothered – not too fussed if anyone looks at it… |

I think a lot of blogs are done for personal enjoyment. More as a diary of the bloggers hobby. I've noticed some people have a blog for different projects and different areas of their life others put it all in one place. I follow about 100 blogs about 10 are publishing bi-weekly 20 once every 2-3 weeks and others are finished, they covered the project and the author moved on. Blogs take effort for both the author and anyone wishing to comment while other forms of social media are quicker for both parties they lack the substance of most blog posts. link |

Where have all the bloggers gone? Long time passing Where have all the bloggers gone? Long time ago. Where have all the bloggers gone? Gone to Facebook every one. When will they ever learn? Oh, when will they ever learn? Where, oh where, has Facebook gone? … Sold to Putin, every one. When will they ever learn? Oh, no they won't ever learn. |

My miniatures blog is only active to the extent I'm actively completing mminiatures and projects. I took almost a year off, unofficially. Just couldn't make much headway anywhere. Though the Blogs I'm Following section on my blog is a graveyard of abandoned sites. I think the ascent of GW in the 00s caught the attention of a lot of kids and talented bloggers. That cohort has gone through their paces and there hasn't been anything to replace what was a thriving brick and mortar experience now that the retail experience only seems to suport large chains of clothiers and restaurants. |

My blog is still going strong as I find it still the best medium for showing your hobby and I also like reading blogs as it's easy to follow along what others are doing. Things like Facebook are just a mess so I don't use it or read it. As for other blogs I actually seen a trend in others firing up their blogs again after going quite for awhile. Also I've noticed forums are again seeing a lot more traffic. Perhaps trying other mediums and not to happy thus coming back to forums and blogs. I've been running my blog for around 10years so there will be down times, but I typically try to get something in at least once a month which is fine as I was never a prolific poster, but at least consistent. The only reason I don't update my blog more often is because I would have to take time out of making models, painting models, and playing games to do so… But it does get updated every now and then. some people even read it. I dont know why… platoonfire.blogspot.co.uk

My blog is still active. I have been averaging 10-12 postings per month and try to post at least twice a week. Some blogs I follow have gone dormant but many others are as active as ever. If interested in the Palouse Wargaming Journal, take a look! link Jon |

I must say that I have a looooong list of bloggers that every day I like to visit …. unfortunately … for each new one that adds up … there are four or five that suspend their participation … and each year it is worst…. Amicalement Armand |

My regular gaming blog gets updates semi-regularly. My Bongolesia blog has been sadly neglected. |

There's a key to using facebook well-- make a separate hobby account and only post to groups. Never add people from your day to day life as friends or even let them know about this account-- maybe even make your last name Hobby or Painter or something. The only people that should see and comment on your posts should be those who are interested in the same subject matter enough to join a group about it. I have both firefox and chrome installed on my computer. One is logged into my personal facebook page (which I barely use) and the other is logged into my hobby id. I changed the facebook "top sites" link to go to facebook.com/groups Twitter and Instagram are best used with a similar approach. Make a separate account (again without communicating with anyone you already know and not using your real last name) and look for other posters who post similar pictures and gaming thoughts and comment on their stuff while also posting your own pictures and thoughts. Never, ever talk or post about anything but hobby stuff and if someone you "follow" starts doing multi-topic stuff, stop following them. |
