After viewing various threads I'm wondering what the officers of the MVSN units wore in the desert. I've seen items which say that OR wore the green/grey woollen uniform with black shirts underneath. But then others, such as Osprey depict them in tropical uniform, well the trousers at least although other photos show MVSN troops in full tropical kit with blackshirts under the jacket. Assuming the officers wore a green/grey tunic as well would they have let it fade until almost white like the tropical kit jacket, though I assume being wool it wouldn't fade like a cotton jacket would? Or did they wear tropical uniform to stand out from the ORs? Or is this one of those areas where no one can say either way for sure so you can just paint them how you like and be damned? |

Rex Trye's "Mussolini's Soldiers" has quite a few color photos of actual uniform items. Grey- green, light sand, greyish stone-- lots of variation illustrated. Most interesting is a blackshirt officer's tunic in a rather dark greenish khaki. I decided to paint my CCNN units with the black shirts and a mix and match combination of grey- green and sand for other clothing elements. I don't know how truly authentic this is, but it looks fine on the table. |
