Congratulations on this project. Your sculpting is very good and the results I am sure will be of your high standard. But Boki if 6mm causes too many issues, why not try 10mm? I ask for 3 reasons: 1. it is my scale(!) 2. It seems just small enough to have good anatomical correctness and small size, and 3. there is not enough 10mm and lots of 6mm. But you must do what you would like to do! I will follow this 6mm project with interest. |
Sho Boki | 23 May 2018 3:10 a.m. PST |
Thanks! :-) I do 8mm instead of 10mm. Because 8mm is pure 1:200. And if compare, than there are lots of 10mm and not enough 8mm ;-) But for BIG battles 6mm is even better than 8mm. My units in 6mm takes 2" front, but the same units in 8mm takes 60mm. And this 1cm difference plays enormous role on small tables. |

Good explanation Sho Boki – except that there are not enough 10mm either! So I am hoping you are making very tall 8mm… |

Am looking forward to see what you end up with – are you aiming for compatibility with any existing ranges this time round? |
Sho Boki | 27 Jun 2018 2:02 a.m. PST |
Actually not, 6mm is 6mm. But.. after examining my previous attempts, I discovered, that a little wider figures with bigger headgears looks better on table and also are easier to paint (central bases on photo).
So proportions will be a little exaggerated. |

Interesting – looking forward to seeing the range |

Testing with Flag stand..

Sparta | 14 Aug 2018 10:38 a.m. PST |
The models look really nice, but I do not think it is good route to go with cast flags |
Sho Boki | 15 Aug 2018 2:31 p.m. PST |
I will try how the flags will cast and how these will be painted. I don't know without testing. May be you are right or may be not.. |

…after examining my previous attempts, I discovered, that a little wider figures with bigger headgears looks better on table and also are easier to paint (central bases on photo). Personally I thought the thinner figures looked better, but best of luck going with what you feel |
Glenn Pearce | 31 Aug 2018 7:09 a.m. PST |
Hello Sho Boki! I also discovered that a little wider figure with bigger headgear looks better on the table. Simply because once they are mounted in a group on a base they project a bigger and brighter image. They are also much easier to paint because your able to get your brush to follow the detail lines a lot easier, as they are generally better defined. Despite being a painter for over 40 years I still need all the help I can get. Best regards, Glenn |
Sho Boki | 08 Sep 2018 6:29 a.m. PST |
Exactly, Glenn. But not too wide. For example Adlers heads are too much exaggerated for my taste. So I try to do something between Baccus and Adler. British Hussar doll..

very interesting project :) thanks a lot for sharing. big or medium heads are nice !! (Adler Fan here) Thomas |

so far your 8 mm look best in my opinion |
Sho Boki | 20 Sep 2018 1:51 p.m. PST |
Yes, these haved most natural proportions. These little scales I develop for pure wargaming use. 1km on game table with 6mm, 8mm and 10mm figures is 4", 5" and 6". All battles are playable with plenty space for maneuver. Only Leipzig need bigger desk than I have. |

how do you do this so small…with a surgical scalpel??? nice work, I have never seen teh steps to do this in small size, so thanks! |
Sho Boki | 08 Nov 2018 2:22 a.m. PST |
Scalpel is too big for these. I forged my tools by myself – miniature hook and shovel. But even these tools are too big, because I mastered them for 15mm figs. |
von Winterfeldt | 13 Nov 2018 7:21 a.m. PST |
a hypodermic needle is quite good for that scale |
Sho Boki | 13 Nov 2018 8:15 a.m. PST |
I use the smallest one I found as flat buttons and chainmail maker for 15mm, but for other sculpting it is too big and with wrong shape. |
