I bought a box of the Perry French Heavy Cavalry. There is only one officer's horse in the box. Are there other options for these? Is the dragoon officer's horse identical – it looks like the horse sprue for the French dragoons is identical, but i've not been able to find a sprue pic for the French dragoons officers.

Is it possible to supplement with horses from their metal officers packs? (I have sworn off ever buying any more metal Perrys because of their casting issues, but I don't want every officer in the heavy cavalry on the same horse).

There are pics of the two Command sprues in the Perry plastic
Accessories section.

The metal horses for mounted infantry officers and the marshals and generals are of the right pattern for heavy cavalry officers. Sadly they lack the portmanteau which was common amongst cavalry officers. However, neither is it inaccurate to portray them without one.

You can use sets FN 2, 4, 14, 15, 97, 98 & 119.

Hope that helps

One dodge is to remove the portmanteau and use a sheepskin style rig with the OR's shabraque. But paint the sheepskin black.

Perrys actually show an officer in this style in their standing cuirassiers command trio (FN66). Alas the officer himself is not up to the standard of the rest of what is a superb range of figures (FN66-68). We always called him The Toad and I never used him.

@camleod – D'oh!. Thanks for pointing that out. That was the first place I looked but didn't see them on the list the first time.

@artilleryman and deadhead. Thanks. The heavy cav officer in the box doesn't have a portmanteau either.

the portmanteau was not so common for heavy cavalry officers, just the manteau

I just sculpted it onto the officers horse, not too difficult to, conversion of Perry plastic French cuirassiers

Shame his link does not work.

I have saved many of his photos of this unit to inspire me.

The best combination of modelling/conversion skill, with superb painting, that I have ever seen on TMP
