In my whole terrain collection it was kind of strange that I never got around to making a wooden bridge! So I finally sat down and just banged one out. Pretty basic. Craft sticks cut to size, with two pieces of foam core to form the slight arch shape. Painted with brown, gray, and white craft paints. Pics: link link link |

Craft Sticks (ie popcicle sticks), or Coffee Stirrers? They look too slim and better to be the former. |

They were from Walmart, kind of in between-type sticks. They come in the craft section and are narrower than typical popsicle sticks. Plus they come with the square ends instead of round…so I guess yeah, they're kind of like really thick coffee stirrers, but like double wide. I got them because they were the perfect width for 28mm scale wooden planks, so I didn't have to split them like I would have to with popsicle sticks. So they're craft sticks but not typical popsicle-width. Here they are:

Baronovich, thanks now I actually have a reason to go to Walmart, they look really useful. |

…one thing I just realized though is that I need to add a second row of horizontal supports half-way down the posts! |

Baranovich Excellent results! And the slight unevenness of the boards produces a very effective look. Dan |

I made a simple bridge using the exact same thing. Then, I made one with the planks taken up, for a Moore's Creek Bridge game. Neither one took more than hour, and both look good. I'm going to try a slightly longer Old North Bridge, at Concord. |

@Winston, Funny that you mention those historical bridges! Due to space and storage limitations, I have endeavored to make a lot of my terrain generic enough to be used in either historical or fantasy games. When I built this bridge, I tried to make it neutral enough looking so that it could be used in my AWI games but also serve as a wooden bridge in Warhammer/Age of Sigmar. In the end, my wooden bridge isn't really an accurate copy of Old North Bridge specifically, but it does fit into the AWI period enough that it could serve as a wooden bridge in generally any battle that I recreate on the tabletop. If I was to use it as Old North Bridge, it wouldn't look terribly out of place, but admittedly is anachronistic to a degree. |

Here's the same bridge with the added railing supports. Looks much better now…! link link link |

Now all I have to do is to find a bunch of kids to eat all the popsicles that I have. |
