I am thinking of having a generic set of French Marshals/Generals sculpted, probably in 40mmm. Hopefully they can be used for most Nations allied to the French and some others.

Is that roughly correct? I am no expert but wanted a little confirmation that from a birds eye, tabletop view that most nations followed the french "look" for their Command and Staff officers.

Funny to think how many of Napoleon's bitterest enemies, at one time or another were "allied" to him.

1812 is the classic, of course, but from Spain in the West to Prussia in the East most European countries fought alongside him at some stage.

In 40mm scale, detail does become more important.

I am afraid that the general staffs of most nations were quite distinctive. Even where they followed French styles, at 40mm the look would be very different. As an example, French generals favoured the long cuffed heavy cavalry boot; not many other nations did so.
