Cyrus: "Ah yes, Captain Marvelle. Marvel has become sooo lazy." I'm glad you said it and not me. Otherwise I'd be called all kinds of "-ists" by all the usual suspects, for simply making that exact same observation. Anyway, I guess that, since my days of watching superhero movies have already come to an end a couple of years ago, this one wasn't going to be on my must see list no matter who the Captain ended up being. Can't wait. Brie Larson is a talented actress, and the Carol Danvers Captain Marvel will play a pivotal role in the follow-up to 'Avengers: Infinity War': link In regards to its first female superhero movie, Marvel is already behind DC with 'Wonder Woman' so is playing catch up. |

Wonder Woman was always a female character. Dan |

Now you have to get your information straight Captain Marvel, also known as Shazam Artist C. C. Beck and writer Bill Parker created the character in 1939. Captain Marvel first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 (cover-dated Feb. 1940), published by Fawcett Comics.Based on book sales, the character was the most popular superhero of the 1940s, outselling even Superman. Fawcett ceased publishing Captain Marvel-related comics in 1953, partly because of a copyright infringement suit from DC Comics, alleging that Captain Marvel was a copy of Superman. Dc then bought the character. Marvel notice the copyright to name had expired and published. 1st Marvel Captain Mar-vell was created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan in Marvel Super-Heroes #12 (December 1967) late he died of Cancer. 2nd Marvel Captain Marvel was created by writer Roger Stern and artist John Romita, Jr.. She first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 (1982). 3rd Marvel Captain Marvel is Genis-Vell, who first appeared in Silver Surfer Annual #6 (1993) The 4th Marvel Captain Marvel is Phyla-Vell, Genis-Vell's younger sister. She was created by Peter David and Paul Azaceta in Captain Marvel (vol. 5) #16 (January 2004) The 5th Marvel Captain Marvel is Khn'nr, who first appeared in Civil War: The Return (March 2007). The 6th Marvel Captain Marvel was Noh-Varr joined the new team the Dark Avengers using the alias Captain Marvel.[14] He first appears in Marvel Boy #1 (August 2000). The 7th Marvel Carol Danvers, the longtime super-heroine known as Ms. Marvel, assumed the mantle of Captain Marvel in July 2012. People always say History has to many facts, but Comic Continuity is a beast. |
Brother Jim | 11 May 2018 5:34 p.m. PST |
Um, no Carol Danvers has been Ms. Marvel since Jan 1977 (Ms. Marvel #1). At least according to the Carol Danvers(Earth-616) page of the Marvel wikia. And I remember reading it in the late 70s-early 80s. |
Wackmole9 | 11 May 2018 7:12 p.m. PST |
Hi You are correct but she became Captain Marvel in 2012 |
Cyrus the Great | 11 May 2018 8:42 p.m. PST |
I'm glad you said it and not me. Otherwise I'd be called all kinds of "-ists" by all the usual suspects, for simply making that exact same observation. Oh, I know labels like sexist or misogynist…whatever. If you had said it with the follow up about Marvel being sooo lazy, I'd have known what you meant. |
Cacique Caribe | 11 May 2018 10:03 p.m. PST |
Cyrus I was referring to what you said. And there was nothing wrong with your statement, so I didn't have to repeat it or amend it in any way. You were spot on. The story feels like weak tea, or maybe it's the acting. Perhaps a stronger actress? Anyway all I have to go by is a trailer. But we can see how the rest, specially Winston, are getting all bent out of shape ("Welcome to The He-Man Woman Haters Club") over what they think I meant. Either that or they find highly offensive my statement that Wonder Woman was always a woman, from day one. Man, talk about a messed up, albeit predictable, reaction over imaginary crimes! Dan |

Guys, heterosexual white men are as welcome in modern mainstream culture as a pork chop at a bar-mitzvah. Time to move on. |
Cacique Caribe | 12 May 2018 3:08 a.m. PST |
I think the Joker would love this … If I say that a movie with a male lead has a weak plot, no one bats an eye. The moment I say that exact same thing about a movie that has a female lead, suddenly someone says I'm part of a "He-Man Woman Haters Club" and soon the rest join in.
Anyway, man or woman, I'm done watching superhero movies. The last one I liked to some extent was Winter Soldier (2014). The rest that came after sucked, and they seem to get progressively lamer each year. Dezmond is right. I'm moving on. Knock yourselves out though. Dan |

Cyrus: "Ah yes, Captain Marvelle. Marvel has become sooo lazy."I'm glad you said it and not me. Otherwise I'd be called all kinds of "-ists" by all the usual suspects, for simply making that exact same observation. How else am I to interpret this but as Our Gang being disgusted at a GIRL playing Captain Marvel, whose gender identity has been …fluid… for 40 years? Are you also shocked that Black Panther (who is not white) grossed more than any other single superhero movie in history? Im amused by you accusing the Left in general (on other threads) of desperately searching for things to be offended by, when you are doing the exact same thing here. I'm saving my outrage for Captain America being suddenly revealed as having been with Hydra all along. That's just not right and I hope it's a work. |
Dezmond | 12 May 2018 1:52 p.m. PST |
Captain America is a white man, so obviously he is an evil racist Nazi by definition. |
Cacique Caribe | 12 May 2018 1:57 p.m. PST |
Winston: "Are you also shocked that Black Panther (who is not white) grossed more than any other single superhero movie in history?" The same could be said about the latest Star Wars films and other franchises. So what's your point? Are you about to make another accusation? Winston: "I'm saving my outrage for Captain America being suddenly revealed as having been with Hydra all along. That's just not right and I hope it's a work." An if I agree with you there, what do I risk being called? Dan |
Dezmond | 12 May 2018 2:08 p.m. PST |
The essential truth is that unless you are really, really keen on endlessly kowtowing to people who openly despise you for your gender and the colour of your skin modern mainstream culture really has very little to offer you if you are a white male. That's just the damn truth. |

Some good/interesting points Dezmond … |
Winston Smith | 12 May 2018 5:55 p.m. PST |
Talk about people who are bound and determined to be offended. The Right has nothing on the Left. Neither can accuse the other of being Snowflakes. |
Dezmond | 12 May 2018 10:58 p.m. PST |
The unconcealed racial hatred progressives have for white people really starts to get to you after a while. And I *used* to vote for the UK Labour Party* and quietly paint my toy soldiers and generally try to stay out of everyones way until progressives decided I was responsible for all the evil in the world for the sin of being born a man with white skin. *Admittedly back when it owed more to Methodism than revolutionary socialism |
Cacique Caribe | 12 May 2018 11:25 p.m. PST |
@Winston: "Talk about people who are bound and determined to be offended." And you determined never to admit when you give offense. No one imagined it. It was clear for all to see: "Welcome to the He-Man Woman Hater Club". So don't try to put it on me. @Winston: "The Right has nothing on the Left. Neither can accuse the other of being Snowflakes." You have no idea how well you've proved that. You were the very first one to get all bent out of shape over my comment. And, when called out on it, you then tried to make this about other "-isms", with your "Black Panther" comment. Easy there with that label-maker. :) Dan |

It's not about the movie, Vigilant Certain members of TMP have decided that the white male is an endangered species in pop culture and will take every opportunity to remind us of that "fact." |
Dezmond | 14 May 2018 11:05 a.m. PST |
It isn't as if Tolerant Progressives go out of their way to conceal their efforts to ethnically cleanse the world of the malign influence of the white devil penises. They are very open an upfront about it, and can't see why anyone might not think speeding their Final Solution to the source of all evil is the most noble endeavour a good progressive could aspire to. |
Legion 4 | 15 May 2018 6:35 a.m. PST |
Certain members of TMP have decided that the white male is an endangered species in pop culture and will take every opportunity to remind us of that "fact." Well to make it clear, for the record … I don't feel endangered … not even a little … Should I ? |
Cacique Caribe | 15 May 2018 7:05 a.m. PST |
Legion 4: "Should I?" Lol. Well, I wouldn't feel endangered, even though there are some people out there for whom gender "parity" can only be achieved via "replacement". For those few it's not about equality. It's about payback. And they want everyone else to make it about that too. And just making that simple statement brings them to a boil (and also out in the open). So I probably painted a target on my back now. :) Dan |

Lol. Wow, that was fast! You're really going to wear out that label-maker. Dan |
Winston Smith | 15 May 2018 9:48 a.m. PST |
You're pretty quick with the label yourself too, kiddo. Snowflake SJW Triggered. There's no difference between non thinking lefties or righties. Only the names that get thrown. If your ideology can be summed up in 4 or 5 syllables, as in…. "Hey hey! Ho ho! *5 syllables that sum up people I find icky* have got to go!" So….. "Hey hey! Ho ho! Social Justice Warriors have got to go!" Yeah yeah. Technically more than 4-5 syllables but a dispensation has been granted. How about "Hey hey! Ho ho! Triggered Snowflakes have got to go!" Perfect! |
Winston Smith | 15 May 2018 9:51 a.m. PST |
"So I probably painted a target on my back now." You don't have a clue how ridiculous that sounds, in a thread about Captain Marvel's fluid gender status? |
Dezmond | 15 May 2018 10:31 a.m. PST |
>Should I ? Well, given how many powerful people appear to nurse (and act upon) a genocidal hatred of People of European Ancestry I think it behooves us to, at the very least, not *affectedly pretend not to notice*. As discussed elsewhere I may be unusually sensitive to this sort of thing. But still. They *ing hate us* guys! |
Dezmond | 15 May 2018 10:51 a.m. PST |
I mean, *I* feel endangered and disenfranchised. I am fairly sure my lords and masters have made it *very* clear they don't give the slightest of bleeps about my opinions or wellbeing because I committed the unforgivable sin of being born a man with white skin, and it certainly *feels* as if large numbers of people with power over my life are actively sharpening their knives and salivating at the thought of extracting vengeance for the slights they feel my people have committed against their people. I am, however, for the purposes of this conversation, genuinely nuts. |
Cacique Caribe | 15 May 2018 11:36 a.m. PST |
Winston: "You don't have a clue how ridiculous that sounds, in a thread about Captain Marvel's fluid gender status?" And do you have a clue what I was referring to, that it was a follow-up to Legion's joke about 28mm Fanatik's claim? A joke, about a joke, about a (I hope) hyperbole. You didn't even figure into it, until you had to jump in with your "enjoy your martyrdom" reaction. Newsflash … not everything in a thread is about the original post, or it's author. Dan |
Legion 4 | 15 May 2018 3:43 p.m. PST |
It's about payback. It's always about payback … one way or another. E.g. physically, mentally, economically, etc. Regardless of "side", labels, POV, etc., etc. genuinely nuts Yeah but why agree to disagree when you can argue and argue, etc., etc., etc.… basically about anything ! |
