Normally making the 'Goal' amount just gets the 'Levels' open. For further ideas you could do a lot worse than look at the current KS from Crooked Dice or this one – link

Hello,

Looking for advice regarding kickstarter and bonuses for meeting goal.

Suppose a figure range were going to be created and there were three levels of pledges:

Level one – approx. 20 USD for 8 figures
Level two – approx. 30 USD for level one and 3 special figures
Level three – approx.. 45 USD for level one and two and 4 special figures

Further suppose Goal bonuses would be for:

1. Making Goal of 600 USD – one bonus figure
2. Doubling goal to 1200 USD – a second different bonus figure
3. Doubling # 2 above – a third different bonus figure

Here is my dilemma – Who should be included for bonuses? All three levels get all three bonuses if goals be met? Or:

Bonus one – for all pledge levels
Bonus two – for pledge levels two and three
Bonus three – for pledge level three

Or perhaps something completely different

Any input appreciated.

Thanks,

Frank

Usually the KS description would describe if all bonuses/stretch goals are available to all pledge levels or if they're restricted.

If not, you can always check the faq section or post a comment to ask.

If you are talking about designing a Kickstarter it has to be based on your profit levels.

If you need $600 USD, say, to fund the creation of the 8 figures AND supply the KS figures to backers then you shouldn't have a bonus figure at this level.

If at $800 USD you are starting to make more money and can cover the costs of an extra figure (for moulding and casting) then include an extra figure…

ONLY give extra figures away if you are covering your costs at each stage and making more money at each stage.

Far too many small companies have crashed and burned on Kickstarter because they didn't run the basic numbers first and simply copied another campaign (such as Reaper's) without understanding the economies of scale and whether they apply in their case (with contract casting, etc).

There is a sweet spot on KS of a $100 USD pledge which a lot of people aim at and it should be that sort of level that gets the big additions to their pledges not the $20 USD level…

What Black Hat said. Plus:
If a $20 USD isn't going to get bonuses, but the $30 USD level will, you may get more $30 USD pledges.

If the spread is $20 USD to $100 USD, don't expect a big increase in $100 USD pledges.

You REALLY need to plan your costs for providing extras.

Thanks for the opinions. I calculate my costs simply as cost of sculpting plus cost of master and production molds plus cost of white metal used to cast the figures. I wish my costs were 600. My costs will be somewhere between 2200 and 3000 USD. But I was cautioned not to make goals too high – much less than my costs, as a failed kickstarter could be the kiss of death.

The line is a pulp line, so no armies on this one, one of's I suppose. However it does include two very interesting vignettes that I think those who enjoy the genre will enjoy. Not sure how big a market there is, but I am sure its large enough to cover my costs.

At any rate green stuff masters are done, and I am awaiting delivery, i am pretty sure I have decided who will make the molds and do the casting. And who my painter will be for my promo photos.

My goal is breakeven. Anything more will be great, anything close will be ok.
