Dark Fable has just launched a new Kickstarter: Orc Warband – Minions of Evil! This is Dark Fable's first foray into a purely fantasy themed project and we thought what better way to lay the foundation for a fantasy range than a selection of savage orcs, the foot soldiers of the forces of evil. The orcs are all sculpted by Kev Adams of Citadel and Games Workshop fame, and have a more ancients feel rather than the usual fantasy medieval look that most orcs and goblins have, so no plate armour, crossbows or halberds. These are your classic go to bad guys – a ferocious band of ravaging orcs in grungy tunics with spikey helmets and crudely fashioned weapons. Ideal opponents for your dungeon party or wandering heroes! There are a great selection of orcs including fighters with melee weapons, spear orcs, archers, a command set and several NPC types. We also have our first fantasy monster for this range – a beautifully sculpted Basilisk by Andy Pieper. Not to mention some cool stretch goal rewards! The Orc Warband kickstarter is a relatively short campaign from 8 May to 1 June and we hope to start shipping orders by July if not a bit earlier. It should be a fun project and we hope that if this is your type of thing you can come and support us or even just spread the word. Cheers Mike Please follow the link below: link |

hmmm not Oriental but I can see what you are saying. Tolkien describes orcs as 'squat, broad, flat-nosed, sallow-skinned, with wide mouths and slant eyes'. We decided to go with narrow squinty eyed orcs as they had a sinister look about them |

I'm torn, I kind want to go to level 5, but I'm not sure I can justify the expense. I am glad somebody is going for the ancient style though, and I guess Pig Face Orcs are Phrigians. |

They remind me of D&D Orcs from the 70s. |

Good eye, we have drawn a lot of ideas from 1970s orc miniatures – the one shoulder tunics and studded belts from Bakshi's Lord of the Ring's orcs which were later made by Heritage in 1978, along with an upgraded and more individual style of horned helmets. The faces are from Tolkien's description and the orcs and hobgoblins made by Jes Goodwin for Asgard miniatures in the late 70's – early 80s. The campaign has unlocked its first stretch goal reward which features a set of two different breeds of orc and a cyclopean – cool set to add some variety to your warband. link |
