Saw this online, not my doing but I love the modelling, and appropriate for today's holiday. Many of the masses don't know about why there is celebration but we here know about the Battle of Puebla …

Why there is a celebration? To sell chips, avocados, and Corona beer, of course!

TheWhiteDog05 May 2018 7:49 a.m. PST

It's actually my dog's birthday, so I tend to celebrate that instead.

emckinney05 May 2018 8:15 a.m. PST

Happy Free Comic Book Day!

My sister's friend is having a KY Derby & Cinco de Mayo party today. Any excuse to eat & drink ! I'm all in !!!!

Winston Smith05 May 2018 8:34 a.m. PST

A Mexican victory over the French is an excuse for Americans to get drunk. Did I get that right? grin

darthfozzywig05 May 2018 8:43 a.m. PST

I read "KY Derby" as an entirely different kind of party…

rustymusket05 May 2018 8:46 a.m. PST

An excuse to party and sell stuff is the American Way. We sell furniture and carpeting to celebrate American Holidays. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Happy Cinco De Mayo everyone!

FearAndLoathing05 May 2018 9:00 a.m. PST

I plan to celebrate today's Mexican drinking holiday with a cold Lagunitas. Or perhaps several. Viva Mexico! Viva General Ignacio Zaragoza!

skipper John05 May 2018 9:24 a.m. PST

Oui, oui!

Gone Fishing05 May 2018 11:04 a.m. PST

Happy Cinco de Mayo to all!

Currently cooking up a storm for our Kentucky Derby shindig: jambalaya, cheese grits, candied sweet potatoes, greens and homemade pralines with ice cream. Perhaps some beer as well.

Ole!

Enjoyed a lunchtime celebration with Mexican food! All the Mexican restaurants here are packed today.

zoneofcontrol05 May 2018 5:02 p.m. PST

Celebrated the day with traditional Mexican foods. Hamburgers and Hot Dogs on the gas grill. Chips, potato salad, fruit salad and cold veggie sticks for sides. Can't get much more authentic than that?!?

Walking Sailor05 May 2018 6:32 p.m. PST

It's National Hoagie Day! And that's what I'm eatin'.

Actually the Cinco de Mayo holiday is a Mexican American holiday, not a Mexican holiday. It wasn't a big deal until Mexican beer companies began to market it to sell beer in the 1980s. It has now become more important in the Mexican American community. It's morphing into a celebration of Mexican culture in America…with Mexican food and beer. Especially in Mexican restaurants, bars and shops.

So, yup, you're right! It rates right up there with St. Patrick's day.

Now that sounds very, very, good ! thumbs up

At the combo Derby/Cinco De Mayo party we ate some Mexican food and watched the derby. Corona beer was in attendance as well ! beer

Ole' ! evil grin

Very much agree ! I'm neither Mexican nor Irish, but that does not stop me from "embracing" the Holiday ! The closest I get is 1.5% Iberian in my DNA … evil grin

Later that evening after the party, a friend & I went to a nice Mexican restaurant, IIRC, Aztec Plaza ? Was pretty good too !

"Why there is a CdM celebration? "

To blot out the memories of all that 'May the 4th' silliness… ;-)

Old Wolfman07 May 2018 7:25 a.m. PST
