I have recently moved to France from Australia to work and live in ville Mayenne. While we are surrounded by history, and historical sites i would still love to get a game in now and again while we are building up our business here. I have no real idea if there is a list of wargaming conventions in France or any historical forums I could join. I have managed to find a club in Laval, about 25mins away, so I may attend the club to see if there are any historical gamers locally there at the next club meet. Finding local suppliers also is a little problematic so any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers Matt |

Well Matt, I hope you enjoy your stay Pays de la Loire. I live in Basse Normandie 1 hour to your north. Wargame suppliers, there are not any, you will find some common and popular plastic kits in the popular scales in a few toy shops, perhaps in Rennes. You will find that quite a lot of supermarkets and DIY store will have art materials, paints, brushes etc. And you will find a lot of historical magazines in most larger supermarkets. Most of my gaming stuff comes mail order from the UK or when I go back to the UK I can find some stuff. Try the Laval club, they may game with miniatures but don't be surprised if they are only playing board games, very popular in France. I travel to a small club in Carentan (1 hour to the north of me), it can be very amusing play games in franglais. A number of the popular gaming systems like Saga and Bolt Action are published in both languages and the pagination of the rule books tends to be the same. I suspect that will be the same with the fantasy games. There no wargme shows locally, well less than a three of four hour journey, Paris is probably closest. There is a modelling show at the tank museum in Samur. There are no local suppliers. Poole is the closest. Good luck, Leslie |

Yep a drought. Here's a French equivalent of the Partizan site. link Most of the UK hobby stores and manufacturers will send stuff post free if the order is of sufficient value. Most ordered items will arrive in about a week which will often be similar to delivery times if you were in the UK. |

Very few shows, best around Paris for you. Try jeudhistoire.fr/forum Might get some. In the deep countryside, be lucky if any. And you 'll need to speak French. Coming in F for business from free Oz, strange idea, Good luck. We are too far away unfortunately. |
