For some odd reason I have a fascination with the old USS Maine. Perhaps it is because these old pre dreadnaught ships looked so odd. More likely it was the engraving of the ship blowing up in Havana harbour. Over the years I have discovered various monuments to the ship and lots of parts of the ship in odd places. Here are a couple i have written up.

Havana, Cuba:

In Central Park West there's a memorial to the sailors, said to be made from metal from the Maine:

They say Maine is the longest ship in the U.S. Navy because her mainmast is at Arlington, VA and her foremast is at Annapolis, MD.

In Davenport Park in down town Bangor Maine is my latest find in hunting for the USS Maine. It is the bow scroll from the ship. Or as one person on trip advisor called it "Battleship bling.". It has been restored and painted and now is mounted on a granite replica of the ship's bow. The scroll was recovered from the battleship when it was raised in Havana harbour after the Spanish American war.
