I did a little Demo Game at this Convention. I was a member years ago but felt that Wargame Models were not well regarded, so it was nice to be invited back. GW also had a Demo table set up. link

Great looking table. Good idea putting on a demo game at a scale model show. |

1st guess.. 15mm – 1/100. After seeing the other vehicles, (Especially) 2 Hvy transporters moving a dozer & mobile CP. Now guessing.. ROCCO, 1/87 IIRC? Where Did You Get the GUN TRUCKS!? Really want to find some Plastic 1/100-15mm, 2 1/2 trucks to 'try' building Gun Trucks. They Rock. BUT if they're Rocco plastics & still available, I'll jump to 1/87 if that's what it takes. Have no Vietnam period mini's. However, I would like to try squad/skirmish games in that period and (1/100) scale if possible. So Information if You Please. p.s. I think going w/ Bolt Action was a great way to 'test run' your game. |

If you want to do Vietnam in 15mm, Flames just released their new version of the rules and has a lot of stuff on sale. 25% off! (I finally picked up the river mats) But for some reason BF went full-moron with their vehicles. You can't get the UH1Bs you need for Ia Drang (We Were Soldiers), and their AH1 is the 1980s version, not the AH1G you need for Vietnam. However, you're covered for the helicopters from other sources. Revell Germany makes a plastic 1/100 AH1G (and a UH1H), and Old Glory UK makes all the helos you need. I will say that BF's new plastic Hueys are fine, and the plastic OH6 "Loach" are great. Otherwise, BF has the large boats, and a PBR. Peter Pig has a good Vietnam range, too, with models that are compatible with BF. Peter Pig has a lot of vehicles, too, including a PBR. I should note that Peter Pig models are a bit shorter than most everyone else's minis, but that's fine for RoK Marines, ARVN, or VC/NVA. I wish I could remember who I bought my PACV models from… I have seen guntruck models, I'm pretty sure they were in 15mm (1/100), but I'm on a new computer and can't find them. QRF does make M35 and M55 trucks in metal for you to uparmor and upgun. Flashpoint Miniatures also has a lot of good Vietnam models, I think a third of my infantry platoons are FP, not BF. FP makes Marines with M14s to use pre-68. If you get to the point of doing SF-led 'Yards or Hmong, it's recommended that you use Peter Pig ARVN infantry for the basic troops, and sprinkle in QRF, BF, or FP troops as the Special Forces advisors. Now the scale discrepancy works in your favor! |

Actually no. The vehicles are either 1/50th, 1/48th or 1/56th scale. Figures are 28mm. The Gun Trucks were converted from Solido trucks with crews from; West Wind, TAG and FOA. I think GHQ do Gun trucks in Micro scale. |

LitS, I would bet that your PACV models came from Gomi Designs if they are in 15mm: link He's also making some PBR that look much better than the solid interior Peter Pig ones. |

*Lion, Thanks for the info, I 'will be' cking on some of those resources. Not a real fan of lead anymore, (had a large early version 40K army yrs ago) got tired of the wt. but 15mm inf. wouldn't be a big deal. *D A, That games 28mm, really? Wow, that had to be one 'BIG' game table to fit all of that. It looked GREAT. I have 'hope' that PSC will continue to expand their 1/100 -15mm actual Cold War line. With the release of the T55, M60 and now the Leopard I, its promising. As for tanks, if they'd release the M48 AND the M41 for use with ARVN units, that would be outstanding. If they do plan to do that era, IMO, its only logical, the US 113's, & Soviet BMP's would be a must. As yet, I know of no one that does the M35's , Dusters or any support units in plastic in that scale. As to 'Flames', its great their 113's allow you to make the 4 variants and aren't resin, all of the armor appears to be resin & metal. Ive never worked w resin, so kind of leary of those. GHQ: Ive ck'd w/ them, to be honest it was a bit of disappointment. They do list the, "M35 Gun Truck #1", however there is no #2 or any other. The "#1" carries the quad .50 but its the only gun truck they have. I have a small collection of their Riverine craft and huey's, there great. I even came up with my own 'Brown Water" wargame, but that was.. wow 25+ yrs ago. Anyway, I just used counters for Inf. w/ that scale. I 'think' the rules are still around here 'somewhere'. lol By chance, Has any one Used Flames ''Nam" rules set and if so what did you think of them? |

Lion, If by chance you recall 'where' you saw the 100 scale Gun Truck models, please drop a note here. I'm going to ck out Revel Germany, maybe that was the spot, after all you did say they had the 'Nam era Hueys. On that subject, Team Yankee is starting w some of the earlier Cold War weapons (as opposed to the 80's based on the book which is the inspiration for the game) including Hueys and M60'd. post note: Lion, and to all interested parties, I 'just' ck'd Revell of Germany, the UH1H, is now listed as Discontinued. |

I'd think a gun truck would be something you cobble together yourself, like an Ork vehicle from 40K. Take a truck model and an M-113 and smash 'em together…

The Hueys are discontinued already?!?!?! THey've only been out again a year or 2… |
ScottS | 30 Apr 2018 2:38 p.m. PST |
They stopped making the resin UH1B gunships and Vietnam era Cobras. Now they make plastic Hueys and Cobras which are later versions that are compatible with Team Yankee. No, you can't have my resin Hueys/Cobras.

That's relatively OK, you can still get the Battlefront Hueys, which have the two different 'doghouses' for the UH1D and the twin-engined UH1N. A little pricey at $35 USD for 2 helos, but if you grab them now they're $26.25 USD for 2. I'll keep my eyes open for the trucks. |

Great work and games. I've managed to get a couple of the Corgi Gambler's gun trucks and have a Solido AA truck as well for a convoy scenario together with some V-100s (MP vehicles for convoy escort). Heaps of VC/NVA for human wave attacks. |

Lion that's not bad advice. But a number of local players have gone to hobby/craft stores and get 1/144 scale models. Primarily for the jets, they look just as good, and much cheaper. That's one very impressive collection ScottS. 1/100's right? Ive always favored plastic models. I guess its those days long past, countless model airplanes, ships and heaven knows how many 1/72 tanks. To this day Ive never built any resin kits, but to each their own. ScottS I'd think a gun truck would be something you cobble together yourself,.. Scott Id have to say you "Hit the nail on the head." And maybe one reason they fascinate me. Im reminded of the "Hedgehog"? IIRC the nick name given to the 'bush-cutter' add-on to tanks fighting in the hedge row country of France after D-Day. I seem to RC it too was an 'in the field' creation by an army engineer. I'm lucky enough to own 'Squadron/Signal Publications' "Gun Trucks", maybe where you found that picture. I found it was not a one of a kind creation: There was also the "King Cobra", "Big Bad John", "Sir Charles" & "Big Kahuna". I'm sure there were still others. |
