I've been working on buying materials for an 8-inch by 5-inch oval vessel* for my 15mm Manth (Rebel Minis) insectoids: link TMP link TMP link
Then, after watching a Farscape episode, it dawned on me that the servile class on board didn't have to be 15mm tall themselves. They could be small-ish, like Moya's DRDs, but organic instead of mechanical. My "Moya" is going to be a living ship with living repair drones! So THESE little 6mm guys are now on my shopping list. They will be working behind the scenes, cleaning up, expanding and fixing things, eradicate pests, etc. on the insectoid ship: link
What do you think of THAT crazy idea? Dan PS. These other 6mm guys are also in the running: link * Hopefully a vessel that looks weird/Alien enough and could be used for a number of genres, such as SF, Pulp and even VSF: TMP link |

A great idea. They could also be supplemented by mechanical assistants should you break training. Then again the biological maintenance crews could be further diversified via modeling materials and odd bits to give them more character. Each modification could give a hint to some sort sort of specialization. There is always color coding and odd symbols on the carapace. Keep it vague but noticeable because, let's face it, no one has any idea of what the heck they are maintaining anyway. 6mm is a great fit for 15mm and if you want the big jobs done, 25-28mm could be in your future. The idea of having a one size fits all group of ETs with a melange of bioengineered minions would save time, money and storage space. Scenarios not included… |

Captain Beefheart: "Keep it vague but noticeable because, let's face it, no one has any idea of what the heck they are maintaining anyway." LOL. Good point. The Moya DRDs were always around too, though we never knew what they actually did. :) I'll have a few carrying a thing or two on their jaws. Perhaps even tending to the Queen's eggs and larvae. Dan

Guys Check out the depiction of the insectoid aliens in these covers for Frederik Pohl's "Black Star Rising. Who says that they all have to be the size of a human, right? :) Dan TMP link
