On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the current crop of rulesets? Where 10 is totally satisfied, and 1 is totally dissatisfied. |

10….better than 20-30 years ago! Playability has trumped "realism" for the better. |

"Current crop?" I'm playing a set of rules that's at least 10 years old. Why do I need to try the new stuff? |

Like Winston, I'm playing with my old rules. |

1 To be fair, I haven't tried *everything*. I think that would be a lifetime project – there are now more Napoleonics rulesets than players. - Ix |

The 'current crop' stipulation is interesting. I play Black Powder for battalion level games and Age of Eagles for brigade games. I guess both of these games are actually starting to get a little long in the tooth (AoE being an offshoot of Fire and Fury) but since both are still available for purchase, I guess that makes them current? Either way, I can't think of anything that I want more from Napoleonic gaming, so going with a 10. |

I guess that if your satisfied with the rules your playing, regardless of age, the answer would be high, i.e. 8-10. If you're still looking for that certain something, the answer would be low, i.e. 1-3. For me, it's a 9. I have Black Powder and Field of Battle. |

10. The set of rules I use is also over 10 years old. |

I have enjoyed several rulesets that have come out in the last 10 years, so I would assign a 9. I am particularly enjoying General d'armee now which I think is 10 out of 10. John |

10…playing with the current version of a rules set that has been actively played for at least 20 years. |

9 for the most part and the rules are 50 (Napoleonic) years old. |

9, General D'armee looks really ace. ESR looks interesting. Snappy Nappy, Blucher and DBN for more abstract games. March attack also looks interesting. It would be 10 if 80% of us would settle on one set. Going to try Napoleon at War again. And would like to try Age of Eagles at some point. |

General d'Armee is the best Napoleonic rule set I've played in 40 plus years of playing. A great combination of decision-making, luck and good-looking games. |

Way back in the day I played Frappe. Then went to Empire. Then AoE. Just bought SHAKO 2. Just looking for something we can actually play that has a resemblance to Napoleonics. And a game we can actually finish. I guess on the scale of 1-10 I'm a 7. |

Probably 8 or 9. ESR took the promise of 'Legacy of Glory' and made it reality. Still love some 'Napoleonic Command'. 'March Attack' gives a nice game. 'Blucher' and 'Snappy Nappy' are great for what they are trying to do. But I will always have a soft spot for 'From Valmy to Waterloo', 'Fire & Steel', the old E.E.L. rules. Just don't have days anymore to play them. |
