In Northstar's current Newbie Intro deal for their Oathmark fantasy line, it says the following:

The special deal is that you get free, one each of the metal models made as maquettes for the plastics.

I looked up "maquette" & found that it was an unfinished or rough draft model. Has anyone bought this deal & know what the maquette is?

Is it a usable figure? Or is it unfinished enough that it's more of a collector's item?

I believe it is this miniature according to Beasts of War

Plenty of news today. All via Facebook.
This is the Elf maquette we made in metal when designing the plastics. The consensus was to shrink the plume, and then make the plumes separate so you can add them or not.
This model was beautifully painted by Andrew Taylor.
We will be giving one away with every pre-order in April.

They are definitely usable. I have the goblin and dwarf versions.

I gather the idea is you make a base model in metal and cast a few. You can then add to it to modify it – add a plume, or a weapon, modify the hair or pose, etc.
