I'll be visiting both Phoenix and San Francisco in May for work. Any tips on game stores or historic sites to visit? |

Best to find a copy of the San Francisco "feces map" so you know which areas to avoid. There was a link previousily in a differnt thread. |

Gamescape in San Francisco. I haven't been there in a long time. There is also a branch in San Rafael. gamescapesf.com Games of Berkeley in Berkeley. 10-20 minute walk from Downtown Berkeley BART Station (it used to be across the street from the BART station). gamesofberkeley.com Endgame in Oakland (maybe 5 minutes' walk from 12th Street BART Station). endgameoakland.com |

Cartoon Art Museum cartoonart.org Angel Island (the Ellis Island of the West -- with Nike missile sites) Alcatraz: give yourself half a day. Golden Gate Bridge (walk or ride a bike across -- the views are beautiful and the weather should be great in May) Golden Gate Park: remember that this used to be sand dunes before it was reconceived as a Victorian-style landscaped and planted park The Presidio and Baker Beach Fort Funston |

Bring a windbreaker or something. A nice May day in San Francisco can become very windy and cold very fast, and while it's warm and sunny in the Financial District, it might be cold and foggy in the Sunset, Richmond, and Presidio. |

In Phoenix: The Game Depot in Tempe (Dave and Patty are great people) and Imperial Outpost in Northern Phoenix. |

where are you coming from when you come to Phoenix? Phoenix in May is the beginning of our 5 month endurance trial of 100+ degrees. Don't plan on being outside unless you are used to it. Its projected 97 degrees here today. What games do you play and where in the valley are you going to be? east side the Game Depot is a great place and Dave and Patty, the owners, are wonderful people. There is plenty of gaming going on there. west side, imperial outpost has lots of gaming going on, and the staff there is pretty good. |

Endgame is the very best game store in the world, and it's only a block from a BART stop. endgameoakland.com Fisherman's Wharf has some historical ships and a WW2 submarine that you may be interested in. Fort Point is a brick ACW era fortress directly underneath the GG Bridge. If that's your era definitely get there. Check the web on all these things to make sure you know where they are, when they're open, and what they cost. |
