Relatives of US embassy staff told to leave. They wouldn't have to tell me twice.

So far, according to human rights groups, 27 people have died. The government's official figure of fatalities is about a third of that.

Ortega disarmed his followers right after he toppled Somoza in 1979 so, for now, the rioters have makeshift weapons.

I wonder how widespread this will get and if Daniel Ortega's military will be able to deal with it. He always said that revolutions were fun. Well let's see how it goes now that he might end up on the opposite side of one.

PS. I wonder who he will blame for the mess that follows. And, if things get really bad for him, will he seek refuge in Cuba? Perhaps North Korea? Bolivia? Doesn't look like Venezuela is an option after he threatened to stop emergency food shipments there if they didn't pay for them on time.

But I thought those countries were workers' paradises?

I wonder what could've gone wrong…

And yes, I am trying to achieve sarcasm.

It is a good thing that here in the US, our Social Security, the various levels of government pension systems and our education industry's pension systems are all over funded !!!

True. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the violently anti-American former FSLN guerillas tried to apply for asylum in the next few months, after Ortega cracks down on them and their families.

Some on Spanish news are saying that the Nicaraguan government is using their Antifa thugs to clash with the protesters. I guess that if you protest a Marxist regime you must, by default, be some sort of fascist?

Here's a BBC article that came out tonight:
