So I am thinking about replacing my Ipad that I use to read eRulebooks with. This is what it needs to be. -decent screen size: I just want to be able to scroll through a PDF without needing to squint or zoom a page if possible so I think maybe a 10" is necessary? -relatively decent storage: I am not going to play games on it, I might use it to take game pictures if it has that function so it doesn't need a ton of space -good battery life: needs to have a good battery life: 7 plus hours would be nice. -decent processing power: if its going to strain its CPU scrolling through a colour PDF thats a problem. -price: last but not least it needs to be relatively inexpensive. As I've stated its basically going to be a glorified ereader so I don't see the point of paying for something that can play games better than my aging PC. |

I too could do with a device like the one you describe for the very same reasons. It will be interesting to see what responses you get on this topic, is the rather expensive Ipad the only solution? I will be watching. |

Not inexpensive but I use a 12.9in iPad pro for the reading of rules and has the games masters copy of rules and scenarios. It has all you ask for but the price. During a game the players are using elderly iPads with their copies of rules and scenarious. x42 |

Plenty of Windows 10 tablets out there at very reasonable prices (from sub £100.00 GBP UK). The main thing is to check battery life, but most should be fine. Most of these will take memory cards to expand storage (unlike iPads I believe?), and most take a standard USB charger. You'll not get a "retina display" on the cheap models, but to be honest you really don't need it for this. Similarly Android devices but for these purposes, I'd go Windows every time for ease of use. |

I've an original Microsoft Surface. It copes easily with pdfs and has a reasonable amount of storage for photos. The battery life is several hours, not 7 though. The newer models may be better. The camera on mine is poor, but again there are more up to date models. |

The large Kindle Fire is what I use. Coming from an Ipad you might not think the CPU power is high enough but I'm very happy with it. Can't beat the price and for reading PDFs it is very good. Screen is 10.1" 64 gig of storage and it can take a mem card. I use mine for 7+ hours at a stretch. Keep the brightness away from max for that. Price – $189 USD for the 64 gig one with special offers. Not as bad as it sounds, all it does it put on add on the front page when you swipe to log in. link |

iPad 2017. The best computing device I've ever had and not that expensive if you have to be 32gb memory. With iCloud and Google Drive, you don't need lots of onboard memory. And so easy to use. I've got a Windows 10 laptop and for ease of use, the iPad wins hands down. DBDD |

I have an iPad which is great for everything other than reading. Gives me a headache. To be honest I prefer touch tablets for surfing etc and stick to ereaders for reading. My Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is superb. Cheap, lovely to read on and change font size if your eyes are getting tired. Easy to carry, battery lasts months and I'm happier taking it to places that I wouldn't take my iPad. Ok so it doesn't have a camera but no doubt your phone does. And it's black and white only. If these are an issue I'd suggest a Kindle Fire HD. My family all have one and they love them. My wife reads on hers and has no problems. And it has the benefit of doing everything my iPad does (mostly) at a fraction of the cost. CBH |
